The Kurozumi Daimyo is the overarching antagonist in the Wano Country arc in the One Piece franchise. He was once the patriarch of the Kurozumi Family and one of the Wano Country's Daimyo until he murdered the other Daimyo in an attempt to become Shogun.

Biography[]

In the past, the Wano Country was ruled by six noble families; the Kozuki Family, which reigned over the entirety of Wano as its Shogunate from the Flower Capital, and the patriarchs of the five other families: The Shimotsuki, Fugetsu, Uzuki, Amatsuki and Kurozumi families who governed the five other regions of Wano.

At some point, the Kozuki Shogun was unable to bear any children, so it would seem that one of the Daimyo's families would take charge as the new Shogunate after his death. Taking advantage of this, the Kurozumi Daimyo attempted to ensure his family's succession to the throne by assassinating the other Daimyo; namely by poisoning them and making them look like inside jobs. The Shogun was greatly shocked by these unexpected deaths and became gravely ill as a result. But just when it seemed that the Kurozumi Daimyo's plot would succeed, the Shogun was finally able to bear a child named Sukiyaki, thus foiling the plot entirely. And some time later, the Kurozumi Daimyo's crimes were exposed, and so he was arrested and sentenced to seppuku.

As another consequence to the Daimyo's crimes, the Kurozumi Clan was stripped of their noble status and all of their castles and royal artifacts were confiscated. Even worse, the clan's name became utterly despised throughout Wano, with some people taking arms to hunt down and eliminate the entire bloodline. It was this unjustified cruelty that led to the Daimyo's grandson, Kurozumi Orochi to accomplish what his grandfather could not by taking the Shogunate with the help of his remaining family and the Emperor, Kaidou and using it to make the people of Wano suffer for his mistreatment.
