Kurt Von Metz is the overarching antagonist of the 1990 American action comedy film, Loose Cannons. He is a former Nazi soldier having served under Adolf Hitler's rule during WWII now running for chancellor of Germany within a few days.

He was portrayed by the late Robert Prosky who also played Billy Flynn in Hoffa.

Personality[]

Little is known of Kurt Von Metz's personality given his minor screen-time in the movie. Nevertheless, due to his lies, deception, and crimes against humanity both past and present even when he was a young Nazi soldier serving Hitler during WWII, it is possible to conclude that Von Metz is a lying, deceptive, cunning, anti-semitic, selfish, mean, cruel, stubborn, mad, ruthless, merciless, careless, remorseless, diabolical, arrogant, and even-tempered old man.

Biography[]

Prior to the events of the movie, about 40 years ago or so, as a young man having been born somewhere in the 20's or 30's with a striking thunderbolt birthmark under his left eye, Kurt Von Metz once served Adolf Hitler as one of his most loyal Nazi soldiers during World War II. On April 30, 1945, being a favorite of Hitler's, Von Metz was specifically chosen by Hitler himself to help him commit suicide and pull the trigger himself. An event which was recorded on film along with some Nazi pornography and Von Metz's past over the years which could link him to Hitler's suicide as well.

In the present day of the 90's, Von Metz is now currently running for chancellor of Germany in a few days. However, the now-classified film that contains Von Metz's past among other things has been recently stolen from him by his former secretary, Steckler, who intends to sell it to the highest bidder rather than give it to the German government as originally planned despite bribes by political opponents wanting to dig up something to use against him due to its value. So, Von Metz has his people hire and send in a German mercenary named Joseph Grimmer and his men to get the film back even though the latter's methods prove to be too unorthodox and unethical when Grimmer starts killing everyone who had seen the film against direct orders, leaving only Steckler and the highest bidder, Harry "The Hippo" Gutterman left alive for now.

Later on, at night, Von Metz is present in a T.V. interview with someone named Waslinski where he tries to deny ever having had any association with Hitler by simply stating that he never even had the displeasure of meeting Hitler in the first place despite certain rumors coming from people he refers to as "sensation mongers" and "supermarket journalists". Von Metz also reveals that he was once sentenced to prison for supposedly participating in the September plot (a plot to assassinate Hitler) even though; according to critics, it was probably fabricated in order to give him protection from the war crime tribunals and was later nominated commander of NATO.

2 nights later, Von Metz's speech at the International Conference of Christians and Jews is suddenly interrupted with a film broadcast by the Mossad having retrieved the film; thanks to the help of two American cops: MacArthur "Mac" Stern and Ellis Fielding and of course, Gutterman as well despite Steckler's eventual death at the hands of Grimmer and his men.

With his Nazi history exploited due to Grimmer's apparent failure resulting in his own death earlier on the same day, Von Metz is discredited and left completely powerless afterwards while Mac, Ellis, and Gutterman recover from their injuries at the hospital during their final battle against Grimmer and his men earlier. However, his final fate remains unknown, but it can be assumed that he was eventually arrested for his lies, deception, and crimes against humanity both past and present in the end.

Trivia[]

  • During his T.V. interview with Mr. Waslisnki, Kurt Von Metz mentions Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley.
  • It is unknown what were Von Metz's intentions once he had become chancellor of Germany had Grimmer actually succeeded in recovering the film for him in the end. However, given his past history with Hitler having been former chancellor of Germany himself back during WWII, it is possible to conclude that Von Metz was probably intending to finish what his military superior had started all those years ago even it meant instigating WWIII or something like that.
