Kwon Jae-Sung, better known as Kwon, is the secondary antagonist of Season 6 of the YouTube Red/Netflix series Cobra Kai. He is the arch-rival of Robby Keene and the arch-nemesis of Axel Kovacevic.
He was portrayed by Brandon H. Lee.
Biography[]
Kwon Jae-Sung was one of the many students training under sensei Kim Da-Eun on Korea, known for being a rebellious troublemaker, often ignoring the lessons he is taught and doing something different instead. Following the arrival of John Kreese to Korea, he took over Sensei Kim's students and punished all of them for Kwon's snarkiness, which made all of the other students mad at him, particularly Yoon Do-Jin, the top student.
After Kwon confronted his new sensei that night, Kreese told Kwon that he should harness all the hate that he had and give it purpose by attacking Yoon Do-Jin and show everyone that he was the top student of his class so he could lead Cobra Kai to win the Sekai Taikai. Motivated by this, Kwon successfully defeated Yoon and two other students with relative ease, taking away Yoon's geum baeji and claiming the title of top student from him.
He later traveled to Spain, Barcelona, to compete at the Sekai Taikai, alongside his fellow students and Tory Nichols. During the Sekai Taikai, he, Yoon, and Tory fight Axel and Zara but lose in mere seconds. When he goes up against Robby Keene, he ties the score but is defeated, causing Cobra Kai to be eliminated. However, a Russian dojo gets disqualified because of their failing their drug tests, causing Cobra Kai to get another chance. During the all-dojo brawl (because of the Russian sensei Ivanov knocking Gunther out with a punch to the face), Kwon grabs the eunjangdo that Kreese dropped and attempts to murder Axel. As Daniel tries to stop Kwon, Axel managed to kick his foot causing Kwon to fall on the ground and fatally stab himself as he screams in pain, causing the whole brawl to stop. As everyone gathered around looking on in shock and horror at Kwon’s corpse lying on the ground, Daniel goes to check on him if he was okay, but unfortunately, Kwon was already dead.
Personality[]
Having grown up in a difficult environment and using Cobra Kai's no mercy rule as an outlet for his pain and anger, Kwon was a highly dangerous and violently unstable person. As he learned to hone his skills in the art of Karate, he started to become even more aggressive. During the final brawl at the Sekai Taikai, Kwon had enough of Robby and Axel, and his anger has completely consumed him.
Kwon then goes completely over the edge when he noticed Kreese's blade next to him and laughs disturbingly. He had then attempted to finish the fight forever by killing Axel with Kreese's knife. But unfortunately, Axel's superior combat skills had allowed him to triumph, which had resulted in Kwon accidentally killing himself; instead; due to him not being able to control his temper and being reckless with Kreese's knife.
Abilities[]
- Martial Arts Superiority: Kwon has been training in the hardest techniques of Tang Soo Do since childhood. As the years progressed, he became an extremely formidable and lethal fighter. He has effortlessly defeated the top fighters in his class, and possesses a skill level that easily trumps the students of Miyagi-Do, but not as much as Axel or Zara.
- Enhanced strength: Kwon is in excellent shape of his Brute strength and Lifting strength, as he is forced to carry around heavy bags of sand and water on a consistent basis as part of his everyday training, and able to take away his opponents breath with one great punch to their chests.
- Stamina: Kwon possesses great reflexes and doesn’t run out of energy when fighting, allowing him to counter and defend against all of his enemies’ attacks. Even enemies who possess identical speed to his.
- Kicking: Kwon is the first Cobra Kai student ever seen to perform all remarkable kinds of flips, spins and difficult master level aerial kicks; all of which no other Cobra Kai student has done. Not even Robby and Tory.
- High Intelligence: Similar to Robby Keene, one of Kwon’s greatest attributes is his superior intelligence. He is incredibly crafty, and is constantly coming up with new ways to better improve his skills and can outthink his opponents in battle. But unlike Robby, Kwon doesn’t listen to anybody, which means he’s not limited to following rules and knowing only what he is taught.
- Indomitable Will: Kwon is fearless and doesn’t take negativity from anyone. He is completely capable of standing up for himself in front of anyone, and is even capable of challenging Kim Da-Eun his sensei.

Trivia[]
- Do to his behaviour in the sixth season, he can be considered the most lethal and ruthless fighter of the Cobra Kai dojo, with his brutal and aggressive personality being similar to Mike Barnes from the third film, while his ruthless fighting skills are similar to Chozen Toguchi from the second film.
- Brandon H. Lee is actually a martial artist in real life too, known to win tournaments and competitions a lot, meaning his character was probably trained and more experienced before the events of Cobra Kai began.
- Kwon can be considered the most dangerous fighter at the Sekai Taikai, as while the other competitors were all very aggressive, Kwon was the only one who proved to be lethal, as he had murderous intensions for Axel. And if had Kwon succeeded in killing Axel, he likely would have gone for Robby next.
