Kyle Mackey is the main antagonist of the Criminal Minds: Evolution episode "Hell Is Empty...". Mackey is a vengeful killer after his own family as revenge for his divorce, with the assistance of imprisoned serial killer Elias Voit, who he collaborates with.
He's portrayed by Aaron Stanford.
Biography[]
Mackey's divorce with his ex-wife Lainey Torres was exhaustingly drawn out and filled with fights, to the point Lainey swore to "bury" Mackey by winning the case in family court. Mackey inevitably lost the divorce and custody of their daughter Ava, so he planned revenge. When contacting Voit's network of killers, Mackey rose the ranks enough to wait for his opportunity to murder while maintaining the network's operations even when Voit was absent. In exchange, Mackey was gifted by Voit a tricked out coffin to kill his family with.
To test it out, he found another divorced woman, Claire Thatcher, who he kidnapped and buried alive in the coffin. He left a phone for her to call the police and her family, her ex hanging up on her in spire of her being near death. Mackey activate the coffin's controls to break the door, causing it to cave in and Claire to die buried in the collapsing ground. After watching the video recording while Ava's visiting him, he calls Lainey and lies Ava needs her after being hurt. Lainey doesn't go willingly, so Mackey forces her into the car and takes her to his home. He then angrily confronts Lainey for fighting him in court, throwing a knife at the wall, then makes her call Ava over to the house. Mackey forces Ava into the coffin, then shoves Lainey to the floor in a fit while forcing her to hear Ava while she's trapped. The BAU arrives to stop him from killing Lainey and Ava, as well as keep him from killing himself so he can be interrogated. He ominously warns there will be multiple killers active simultaneously that the agents need to prepare for.
When the plans of the network's new mastermind, Tessa Merrick, a.k.a. "The Disciple", are put into action, Merrick uses her number two, John Perry, to try and drive Mackey to suicide to eliminate liabilities. The ploy ultimately failed with Mackey specifically, and he was places in isolation.
Trivia[]
- Mackey is inspired by Michael Sams, a British killer and kidnapper using a coffin to hold captives he extorted from. He killed sex worker Julie Dart in his earliest activities, then kidnapped and raped real estate agent Stephanie Slater before releasing her and ending up arrested.
