Kyohei Jingu is a major antagonist in the Yakuza Saga of the Like a Dragon (Ryū ga Gotoku, formerly known as Yakuza in the west) franchise. He is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Akira Nishikiyama) of Yakuza (and its remake Yakuza Kiwami), and a minor antagonist in Yakuza 4.
He is a power-hungry and greedy politician and the ex-partner of Yumi Sawamura and father of Haruka Sawamura, who hunts down for the 10 billion yen that was stolen by her, Shintaro Kazama, and Masaru Sera. Because of this, he's been forming alliances with several yakuza to hunt for the money, including Nishiki and the Omi Alliance.
Jingu was later killed by Nishiki who sacrificed himself to stop Jingu from killing Kiryu and Haruka and for killing Yumi, avenging her in the process. Despite his death, his actions still influence the Yakuza Saga, as it was revealed in Yakuza 4, he was a major ally of Seishiro Munakata, being responsible for funding his illegal prisons and was the reason why Shun Akiyama was homeless before he became a finance businessman.
He was voiced by Hiroaki Yoshida in Japanese, who later reprised his role in Kiwami and voiced his Bakumatsu Period counterpart Yamauchi Yodo in Ryu ga Gotoku: Isshin and it's 2023 remake Like a Dragon: Isshin, and by Robin Atkin Downes in the English dubbed version of the PS2 original.
Biography[]
When Yumi's memory was damaged, she met Jingu and the two fell in love. They got married and eventually had a child whom they named Haruka. Jingu was offered to marry the prime minister of Japan's daughter and so he abandoned Yumi and Haruka to do so.
Jingu and the third chairman of the Tojo Clan Masaru Sera joined forces.
Jingu became the leader of the MIA, a secret intelligence agency.
One day, Jingu accidentally killed an interviewer who had stumbled upon Jingu's abandoned family, and called Sera for help hiding the body. He then requested that Sera have Yumi and Haruka killed to prevent himself from suffering any controversy.
Jingu laundered ten billion yen within the Tojo Clan. He teamed up with the Omi Alliance, a rival organization, and he planned to sell out the Tojo Clan to them, thus making the Omi the sole controllers of Japan's criminal underworld, and they would make Jingu the ruler of Japan.
Jingu's ten billion yen was stolen by Yumi, Shintaro Kazama and Sera, the latter having turned on him.
Jingu and his men ambush Kiryu, Yumi and Haruka while they are in Ares. He reveals his plan, and Terada comes with some members of the Omi Alliance and holds Jingu at gunpoint. Jingu laughs as the members attack Terada, revealing he is in control of the Omi Alliance. Kiryu defeats the Omi Alliance members and approaches Jingu, defeating him in combat as well.
After Kiryu returns to Ares and defeats Nishiki, Yumi reveals the safe in which she has been keeping Jingu's missing 10 billion. Jingu sneaks up on them and shoots Kiryu, then prepares to finish him off with another bullet. Haruka stands in the way prompting Yumi to do the same. Yumi is shot and collapses. As Jingu prepares to kill Kiryu, Nishiki charges at him with a knife. He pushes him into the safe and shoots the bomb Yumi had put in it to destroy the money. The bomb explodes, taking the 10 billion yen, Nishiki, and Jingu along with it.
