La Santa Compaña (The Holy Company), also known as the All Souls Procession, the Güestia, As Da Nuite (The Night Ones), and the Estantiga, alongside other names, is a urban legend and a evil organization in Iberian folklore.
History
A group of figures clad in hoods, it is said that the scent of burning wax is a sign of their arrival, to which they vist the homes of those soon to die. Often seen as a procession of undead figures holding candles, this group is lead by a single living parishioner usually seen holding a large cross and/or a cauldron filled with holy water, with this man lead by supernatural means to lead La Santa Compaña every night. Said leader is often under a trance during their time as leader, and once their work is done, they reawake in their beds tired and without their memories of the night's events. This curse can be given to others who find La Santa Compaña during their nightly walks, and this curse must be given lest the current leader wither and perish, with the curse passing to another without their knowledge and at random.
To avoid the effects of La Santa Compaña, one must draw "Solomon's Circle" as soon as they see the group with chalk before entering the circle either standing up or lying down, put a black cat in their path, or use divine hand signals.
