Lachaise is a minor antagonist of the 1999 James Bond film The World is Not Enough. He is a Swiss banker who is in league with Elektra King and Renard.
He was portrayed by Patrick Malahide, who played Balon Greyjoy in Game of Thrones.
History[]
Being an employee for the private industrial bank located in Spain, Lachaise was involved in securing deals with terrorists and other international criminals. It was not until an MI6 agent was killed while trying to deliver a stolen report of the Russian Atomic Energy Department regarding the attacks on Robert King's oil pipeline due to the latter's refusal to pay $5 million in exchange for Elektra's safety as Renard previously kidnapped her.
Renard then tasked Lachaise to return Sir King's money, leading MI6 to send James Bond to meet with the banker. Though Lachaise initially attempts to pass on the money as agreed, things become heated as 007 tries to extract information about the agent's murderer, prompting Lachaise to have his bodyguards hold Bond at gunpoint.
However, Bond manages to overpower the bodyguards before Lachaise at gunpoint, demanding to know the name of the assassin. Before, Lachaise could reveal the name, he is unexpectedly stabbed in the back of his neck by his mistress Giulietta da Vinci, who happens to be an assassin working for Renard. Though Bond managed to chase Vinci back to London, she committed suicide in an air balloon explosion.
