Lacie Pound is the protagonist of the season three episode "Nosedive" of Black Mirror.

She is an office worker who becomes obsessed with the social-rating system that dominates the world she lives in.

She is portrayed by Bryce Dallas Howard, who also portrayed Victoria in Twilight: Eclipse and Hilly Holbrook in The Help.

Personality

Lacie appears just a normal woman when stable. When she isn't, she behaves erratically and unpredictably. She is obsessed with being highly-rated and respected by the world, and very comfortable in her privelege.

Physical appearance

Lacie has ginger hair. Like everyone in the world she lives in, she dresses predominately in pastel coloured clothing. She tends to wear her hair up.

Biography

Background

Lacie attended school with her best friend, Naomi Blestow. Lacie was not seen as attractive as Naomi, and was insecure about her weight which made her develop bulimia nervosa. At some point, Naomi slept with someone called Greg, who is believed to have been Lacie's crush or boyfriend at the time.

Lacie and Naomi fell out of touch, where she became employed at Hoddicker, a successful but unspecified business. When the rating system was implemented, Lacie became obsessed with giving and receiving high scores.

Black Mirror

Lacie discovers old-friend Naomi's social media page, where she sees that Naomi is rated extremely highly. Envious, Lacie tries to solicit Lacie's attention by posting a photo of their old toy, Mr. Rags.

When Naomi eventually gets in touch, she invites Lacie to be her maid of honour which thrills Lacie. Lacie writes a speech which she performs to her brother, Ryan. However, Ryan sees through Lacie's intentions and tells her she is behaving sociopathic by only going to this wedding to receive a high rating.

Lacie leaves Ryan, who gives her a negative rating. She then has a series of unlucky encounters where her rating freefalls. Naomi realises this and tells her not to come, leading to an argument. This sees Lacie break into Naomi's wedding nonetheless and deliver a deranged monologue whilst covered in mud.

Lacie is eventually arrested and imprisoned, where the rating-device in her eye is removed. She then has a cathartic moment with a fellow prisoner who used to have the eye-rating system too.
