~ Lady Butterfly |
Lady Butterfly is a supporting antagonist in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. An elderly kunoichi and one of Wolf's former teachers, she since allied with the bandits attacking the Hirata Estate.
She was voiced by Tomoko Miyadera in the Japanese version and Cindy Robinson in the English version.
Biography[]
Lady Butterfly was a kunoichi hired by Owl to train Sekiro/Wolf in his youth into becoming a shinobi. Sometime between the past and the game's events, she allied herself with the bandits who kidnapped Kuro and attacked the Hirata Estate. She is first found in the burning Hidden Temple which requires a special key to open. A hypnotized Kuro appears to Wolf, who manages to snap him out of the spell. Lady Butterfly then arrives in front of Wolf to challenge him to a battle.
Despite her old age, Lady Butterfly is a very agile foe, capable of maneuvering fast across the temple and slashing her kunai at Wolf. She is capable of jumping from the rafters of the building to throw her kunai or strike Wolf from above. Despite this, she only has one deathblow counter and her posture bar is quick to fill up. Once Wolf deals the deathblow, the real Lady Butterfly exposes herself standing on a Buddha statue; the one Wolf was fighting was only an illusion.
The second phase is identical to the first, although Lady Butterfly can cast an illusion that summons a horde of mist humanoids that attack Wolf. Wolf cannot attack them as they are phantoms, although he can use a Snap Seed instead to disperse them. After some time has passed, the phantoms turn into clear butterflies that home in on Wolf and explode, although he can also use another Snap Seed to disperse them before they explode.
Once the deathblow meter is filled, Wolf finishes off Lady Butterfly by stabbing his sword through her back. In her dying words, Lady Butterfly compliments Wolf for becoming stronger. She drops the Memory: Lady Butterfly that Wolf can consume to increase his attack power, and a Sakura Droplet, which can be given to Kuro or the Divine Child for Wolf to be granted one additional Resurrection.

- It is possible to skip Lady Butterfly as the Hirata Estates is not required to visit, but fighting her is required for the Purification ending.
- Judging by the fact that she drops the Sakura Droplet upon her defeat, it may be possible that Lady Butterfly was attempting to claim immortality.
- She is known as "La Falena" ("The Moth") in the italian version of the game.
