Biography[]
Background[]
Lady Dymov met her future husband, Grigor, in their youth. They would spend their days in the palace of Peter the Great, Peter III's father. Before the arrival of Catherine, Lady Dymov would be used by Peter III for casual sex. She became involved in Lady Antonia Svenska's troupe of the ladies of the court.
The Great[]
Lady Dymov is introduced to Catherine by Peter III on her arrival to Russia as one of her new friends. When Catherine asks what the ladies of the do in spare time, Lady Dymov reveals the banality of their lives. Catherine asks if they ever read, to which they respond that all the women of the court are illiterate. Later, Catherine discovers that Lady Dymov is Peter's mistress, despite her marriage to Grigor. Lady Dymov admits to Catherine that she finds the arrangement painful, but necessary.
After insulting Lady Svenska, Catherine tries to win their affection back by gifting them Fabergé eggs after a rumour that Catherine fornicated with a horse is spread by Dymov and her ladies. Lady Dymov tells Catherine this method comes off as tacky and sublimates her, but Catherine persists. Catherine is invited to tea with Lady Dymov and Lady Svenska, where they invite her to dance. During this dance, the ladies beat Catherine in a seemingly-accidental way.
Lady Dymov is involved in the attack against Rostov alongside her husband and Peter. After the attempted coup against Peter, Lady Dymov, Grigor and Peter III flee to his country house. However, without any sustenance, the three begin to starve. Peter sends out for his chef, Jean-Pierre. Catherine follows Jean-Pierre and brings the military to surround the estate. Peter then confides in Lady Dymov of his plan to take Russia back from Catherine.
Fearing for her safety in the court as support for Catherine grows, Lady Dymov begs Catherine to be exiled to France with Grigor. However, Grigor decides at the last minute his loyalties lie most with Peter, and leaves Lady Dymov who travels to France alone and upset. Lady Dymov later returns, claiming to have found enlightenment in France, and sharing Catherine's love of liberty and progression. Lady Dymov reveals this to be false to Tatyana, in an attempt to gain Catherine's trust so she can curtail her power over Russia and restore it to Peter.
At Marial and Maxim's wedding, General Velementov arrives and arrests most of the nobility, including Catherine's best friend Marial, but leaves Lady Dymov. Confused by this, Lady Dymov decides to take advantage and feign her loyalty to Catherine. To prove her loyalty, Catherine tells Lady Dymov to shoot her best friend, Tatyana.
Later, it is revealed that Lady Dymov, Peter and Grigor were sexually assaulted in their youth, and they collectively kill the perpetrator, a noble called Simitz. Despite murder being outlawed by Catherine, she turns a blind eye to this. Lady Dymov starts a flirtatious relationship with fellow courtier, Katya. The two discuss literature and novel ideas for Russia. Lady Dymov reads a satirical play that mocks and criticises Catherine, and finds great delight in it.
On learning of Peter III's death, Lady Dymov becomes distraught. She comforts Grigor, but drugs him so that she can begin exploiting Catherine's instability against her to transfer power to the Swedish monarchs, Hugo and Agnes. Georgina does not immediately tell anyone of Peter's death, and swears her servant, Petra, to secrecy. Lady Dymov then begins a sexual relationship with Petra.
Lady Dymov encourages Catherine in her instability to hold a festival celebrating enlightenment and comedy. During this, Dymov conivnces Katya to perform her critical play on Catherine's leadership. Visibly uncomfortable by this, Lady Dymov watches on as Catherine begins to spiral, upholding her ludicrous rulings such as enforcing everyone to dance until they are sick.
Afterward, Lady Dymov tells Tatyana and Arkady of a "rumour" that Peter III is dead, and Catherine is hiding this from the court. She tells them she believes this to be because Catherine killed Peter III. This then spreads throughout the palace. Lady Dymov then returns to Catherine who is exhausted from her grief. She tells Catherine there is a rumour that Peter has died, and begins to influence Catherine's mind, convincing her that Peter is not truly dead. This is reinforced when Peter's doppelganger Pugachev is shot by Maxim. As Catherine tells the court that Pugachev is dead, and not Peter, a drugged and drunken Grigor storms into the room and tells everyone that Peter is truly dead.
After Grigor begins to descend into a spiral, both Lady Dymov and Marial (who had been having a romantic relationship with him after Lady Dymov was exiled), attempt to win his affection back after he rejects them both. Grigor takes Catherine's and Peter's infant, Paul to the woods and keeps him in a suspended box. It is revealed Lady Dymov had been conspiring with Patriarch Archie and the Swedish monarchs to have Paul ordained as emperor so that Catherine can de dethroned. Lady Dymov finds Paul and steals him from Grigor, and has him ordained as emperor and then marry him to become Empress of Russia. Grigor interrupts the ceremony and takes Paul back from Lady Dymov.
