Lahabrea is one of the main antagonists of Final Fantasy XIV. One of the three unsundered Ascians, Lahabrea seems to be helping the Garlean Empire advance their agenda by sowing chaos in Eoreza and helping the Beastmen to summon their Primals. His goal is to manipulate Gaius van Baelsar into completing the Ultima Weapon so that the ancient artifact at its heart can be used to advance the resurrection of Zodiark, God of the Ascians.
In the Japanese version, he is voiced by Shūichi Ikeda, most famous as the voice of Char Aznable. In the English version, he is voiced by Kyle Hebert in A Realm Reborn and by Alec Newman in Heavensward onwards. The latter voices Adam Smasher in Cyberpunk, Oybek Nabazov in Hitman, and Jack the Ripper in Assassin's Creed: Syndicate.
Biography[]
His real name Hephaistos. he was a scholar in Amaurot who acquired the title of Lahabrea after his predecessor, his wife Athena, died. But in reality, Hephaistos was forced to kill his wife upon learning the experiments she did on their son Erichthonios and being tricked into temporary merging with Athena to understand her motives. He was then forced to split his soul in two upon learning that Athena left a part of herself in his mind that started to corrupt him, becoming distant as a result while embracing his title as Lahabrea.
But Athena arranged that soul fragment to be freed years later by enthralling her subordinate Hegemone, assuming the form of Hephaistos while taking over Pandæmonium in an attempt to revive Athena through her son while turning the wardens into hybrid monsters. But the scheme is foiled and Lahabra is forced to absorb his fragment to free Hegemone's mind from Athena's control, which would lead to his total corruption in the aftermath of Hydaelyn fragmenting their world to seal Zodiark.
Lahabrea worked with the other Paragons and their Ascian followers to orchestrate Umbral Calamities to restore Zodiark and their home world, overseeing the teaching of the primal summoning process to the beastmen and other persecuted peoples in the Source. But Lahabrea's continuous habit of possessing new bodies weakened him until his power to equal to his sundered colleagues.
Lahabrea is first seen watching the Eorzean Alliance leaders during the Battle of Carteneau. The Adventurer encounters him in a vision from Hydaelyn, and then in a dungeon outside of the vision.
After the Adventurer defeats Titan, Y'shtola finds Lahabrea siding with the Garlean Empire. Lahabrea faces the Adventurer during the attempt to get Cid's airship. Following Garuda's defeat, he demonstrated the power of Gaius van Baelsar's Ultima Weapon by consuming the Primals.
During the escape from the Garlean fortress in Mor Dhona, it is revealed that Lahabrea possessed Thancred. In the final battle, he explains his goal to destroy Hydaelyn. He fights the Adventurer but is defeated and loses possession of Thancred.
Even though he is defeated, he appears in the void with other Ascians discussing the return of Zodiark. Later, he and Elidibus are seen with Archbishop Thordan VII, as they seem to manipulate him.
In Azys Lla, he and Igeyorhm fights the Adventurer together and combined as Ascian Prime, but they are defeated, and Igeyorhm is destroyed by the Adventurer using White Auracite and Nidhogg's left eye. As Archbishop Thordan VII and the Heavens' Ward appears, Lahabrea discovers that he is a pawn of the archbishop. After Thordan transforms into the Primal King Thordan, he destroys Lahabrea by killing his host and converting his soul into aether that he consumes.
