Lara Florakis is a major antagonist in the Giallo film The Case of the Scorpion's Tail. Florakis is the mistress of murdered millionaire Kurt Baumer, who demands the inheritance from his grieving wife Lisa.
She was portrayed by Janine Reynaud.
Biography[]
Florakis had an affair with tycoon Kurt Baumer, while his wife Lisa was having one with steward George Barnet. Kurt was killed in a plane explosion with the rest of the passengers and crew, and Lisa stood to inherit his net worth. Believing she killed her own husband for the money, Florakis lured Lisa to an abandoned theater in Athens, where Lisa was to collect the insurance payout. With hired muscle Abad Sharif, Florakis confronted Lisa in stage, making accusations about her guilt and demanding the money Florakis felt entitled to, a she believed Kurt was going to pay her and even continue their relationship. Despite Sharif as an embodying threat of violence, Lisa escaped with the help of Peter Lynch, the insurance investigator on Lisa's case.
Lisa collected the cash, but was slashed to death in her hotel room by a killer who made off with the money in its attaché. Lynch went to confront Florakis at her door, where Sharif was waiting to nearly kill Lynch with a hatchet and run. In anger, Lynch barged in after John Stanley, the Interpol agent on the case, gained entry, Lynch about to beat false confessions out of Florakis. Lynch was ordered by the agent to back off and take a walk, while Florakis pretended to cooperate and played dumb about the money, insisting she wasn't the killer. This was proven when the killer tried to break into her house by stabbing through the door, with Florakis calling Sharif to set off an alarm. The killer then smashed in through a window, cornered her with a switchblade at her patio door, and slit her throat. Sharif arrived shortly after and was also killed.
