~ Larfleeze |
Larfleeze is a minor antagonist of the 2012 science-fiction superhero cartoon Green Lantern: The Animated Series, serving as a titular overarching antagonist in the episode "Larfleeze." He was previously a member of the Orange Lantern corps until he killed all of its members and stole the Power Battery for himself.
He was voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.
Appearance[]
Larfleeze is an alien roughly the same size as a human. He has orange-brown skin and/or fur. He has an animalistic head with sharp teeth and two large tusks, and his fingernails are long and claw-like. Thanks to the orange lantern ring, Larfleeze is given an orange outfit, which bears the Orange Lantern Corps' insignia on the shoulder.
Personality[]
Likely due to years of isolation and the influence of the Orange Lantern Ring, Larfleeze has become delusional and self-absorbed. He believes that is is his right to have everything that he wants, and he went as far as to kill the entire Orange Lantern Corps just to have the Power Battery all to himself. He greatly despises people taking his things, and goes into a frantic rage when they do so. However, he has some honor, as he offered the Green Lanterns something after they helped him, though it was an empty gesture since the thing he offered them was merely a fly.
History[]
Due to his immense greed, Larfleeze was chosen to be a member of the Orange Lantern Corps, an organization dedicated to conquering the universe. During his time with them, Larfleeze participated in a battle against Atrocitus' Red Lantern Corps. The Orange Lanterns ended up winning, preventing the Red Lanterns from taking over the Orange Lantern's sector.
Since the Orange Lanterns embody the emotion of greed, Larfleeze became obsessed with having the Orange Light to himself. Thus, he killed every other member of the corps, and, thanks to the power of the Orange Ring, their souls became construct warriors for Larfleeze to use at his disposal. Eventually, Larfleeze started stealing everything that he could find, placing all of his belongings in the Orange Lantern temple on the planet Okaara. Seeing as how Razor mentions that other people sought out the Orange Light but never returned, it's likely that Larfleeze killed them as well.
In the present day, Okaara was visited by Green Lantern Hal Jordan and his crew, who were hoping to use the Orange Lantern Power Battery to stop Aya. When Hal arrived at the temple, he was spotted by Larfleeze, who told him to leave. However, Hal became consumed by the battery's greed energy, and took it for himself. Angered, Larfleeze sent Glomulus and two other Orange Lantern Construct Warriors to attack Hal. When that failed, he created a large construct of himself to kill Hal.
Thankfully for Hal, Kilowog and Razor arrived on the scene, and the three of them fought off the Larfleeze construct. Larfleeze then ran away, and Hal's team left with Larfleeze's battery. Back on their ship, Hal had become fully consumed by green, and took the battery for himself. Kilowog and Razor attempted to follow Hal to the Orange temple, but they were attacked by Larfleeze and Glomulus. The heroic lanterns defeated Glomulus and attacked Larfleeze. Larfleeze then went into a rant about how he needed his Power Battery. Realizing that they both wanted the same things, the three of them teamed up to stop Orange Lantern Hal Jordan.
While the three of them were sneaking inside the temple, Larfleeze sensed that Hal was using some of his stolen Orange Lantern Rings and went into a frenzy and flew to Hal Jordan. Razor and Kilowog tried to convince Hal to give up the Orange Battery. It did not work, and Larfleeze tried to take it by force. Razor and Kilowog joined the fight, but even all three of them couldn't defeat Hal. While Larfleeze and Hall continued to battle, Kilowog and Razor looked into the night sky and saw that Aya was extinguishing more and more stars to draw power. While Hal was overpowering him, Larfleeze looked to the sky and saw the disappearing stars as well, causing another meltdown. Confused, Hal looked up and saw the same thing. This, combined with words from Kilowog, allowed Hal to remember why he went to Okaara in the first place. With this, Hal finally overcame the Orange Greed.
Hal gave the battery back to Larfleeze, and apologized to larfleeze, Realizing that the battery was to dangerous, Hal and his crew left. Before leaving, Larfleeze brought over a chest and looked through it to see if there was anything he could give the lanterns. He ended up deciding that his things were to valuable, and offered them a fly instead. They declined, and Larfleeze ate the fly. After that, he told the lanterns to have a safe trip.
