The prisoners of Larys Strong are minor antagonists in the television series House of the Dragon. They are prisoners who were held in the Black Cells but were later released by Larys Strong to do his bidding, such as the killing of both Lyonel Strong and Harwin Strong.
Biography[]
House of the Dragon[]
These unnamed prisoners are first seen in the black cells as they await execution. However, Larys Strong, the Master of Whisperers and also the royal interrogator, gives them the task of murdering Lord Lyonel Strong and his eldest son Harwin, and in exchange, they will be spared. However, Larys has the tongues of the prisoners removed so that they won't repeat his secrets.
After they were freed, they followed Lyonel Strong and Harwyn Strong as they returned to Harrenhal. In the middle of the night, while the two slept, the tongueless prisoners started a fire that killed both Lyonel and Harwin. With their deaths, Larys became the new head of House Strong, and it allowed Ser Otto Hightower to be reinstated as Hand of the King. For the last thing, Larys instructs Queen Alicent Hightower that she will owe him in the future. However, Alicent seems more shocked and disturbed by Larys' ways than grateful.
Later, Larys sends the same prisoners to burn Mysaria's manse after she helped in kidnapping Prince Aegon Targaryen in order to gain favor from the twin Kingsguard brothers, Ser Arryk and Erryk Cargyll.
Trivia[]
- The fire at Harrenhal, which kills Lyonel and Harwin Strong, is one of the major "unreliable narrator" moments in Fire & Blood. Four different possible culprits are suggested, but without definitively saying who had them killed. None of them say the potential culprits personally did it themselves, but they must have used agents.
- "Other sources" suggest rumors that Larys Strong did it, as the death of his father and older brother elevated him to be the new Lord of Harrenhal and also removed Lyonel as Hand, paving the way for Otto Hightower to resume that position. Soon after Otto returned, Larys was made the new Master of Whisperers. The TV series used this version.
