Oh, Saeta. Where once its piercing song shattered the mirrors and trinkets in my tomb, let its wail now grant light. Saeta, awakener of the desolate, ignite these five lifeless eyes! These millennia of torment, my punishment, thread through my bones like poison. My forbidden passion is my penance. My golden virtuous strength armours me. I let this happen - I let this ardoor grow inside me. But only the Miracle giveth. Only the Miracle taketh away. The fatal bargain that governs my awakening has been struct - I must end thy irreverent intention, Penitent One. And so the long night is severed. Dawn cometh.
~ Laudes before her fight with the Penitent One.

Laudes, also known as the First of the Amanecidas, is a major antagonist in the indie game Blasphemous, introduced in The Stir of Dawn DLC.

Biography[]

Laudes was once a holy warrior who served the Miracle. That was until she became more devoted to the worship of the Twisted One, a being who was full of so much guilt that his body twisted around the log which he prayed from. Her immense passion excreted from her body through golden tears, transforming into the Amanecidas, four reflections of Laudes holding portions of her powers.

Laude and the Amanecidas took it upon themselves to serve the Twisted One, guarding him from the public. However, after the Twisted One passed, the High Wills, the creators of the Miracle, cursed Laudes as punishment for worshiping the Twisted One instead of them through the Miracle, sealing her and the Amanecidas away within crystal sarcophagi. As such, Laudes was cursed to sleep for all eternity.

In New Game Plus runs, the Penitent One encounters Jibrael, a malnourished giant man with his arms tied together by a bugle. Once the lover of Laudes, he explains that he was cursed by the Miracle, and can emit the Saeta from his bugle, the procession march used to announce the arrival of the Twisted One. Upon playing, he can unearth portals leading to the Amanecidas, who seek to test the Penitent One of his worth. The Penitent One applies and Jibrael plays, awakening one Amanecida from her slumber.

After defeating all four Amanecidas, Jibrael plays his bugle one last time to awaken one last portal to Laudes. Entering it reveals Laudes, explaining to the Penitent One that she accepted the millennia of torment as her penance, and only the Miracle gave and took away her virtuous strength. Angered, she battles the Penitent One to put an end to his irreverent intentions. But the Penitent One prevails and defeats Laudes. Laudes remarks that her passion now returns to her body.

In the Hall of the Dawning, Jibrael thanks the Penitent One for releasing Laudes of her torment, and hopes to see her on the other side of the dream before disappearing in light.

Appearance[]

Laudes wears a bronze armor set which includes a purple cape and a helmet resembling five conjoined skeleton heads, each with glowing red eyes.
