Launch Octopus (known in Japan as Launcher Octopuld) is one of the eight Maverick bosses from Mega Man X.
Description[]
Appearance[]
Launcher Octopuld is a humanoid robot modelled after an octopus that stands up like a humanoid. He is red in colour, and the six tentacles that serve as his arms end in Buster cannons, allowing him to attack his enemies, although they can also be used to grab. The other two tentacles have been converted into feet. His mouth is flat in Rockman X1, but becomes funnel-shaped in Rockman Irregular Hunter X.
His Weapon[]
Homing Torpedoes serve as Launcher Octopuld's weapon. Homing Torpedoes home in on their targets, but, unlike an actual torpedo, do not necessarily have to be in the water to work. Launcher Octopuld uses torpedoes modelled after Piranhas for his version of the attack, but X uses rocket-shaped missiles for his version.
Biography[]
Launch Octopus was a Maverick Hunter from the 6th Marine Unit under Sigma, following his revolt in order to perfect his battle strategies and achieve beauty in combat. His main weapon is the Homing Torpedo, in which he launches various piranha-like drones which home into his target. He can also create a whirlpool to pull the player, after which he grabs him and drains his health. His weakness is the Rolling Shield. The player can also use the Boomerang Cutter to cut his tentacles.
In Mega Man X5, it is revealed he was a friend/brother to Squid Adler, depending on the translation (in the initial English localization, his name is mistranslated as "Octopardo").
