“ | Here comes the popsicle. | „ |
~ Beria before he sodomised Alfred with a popsicle. |
“ | Alfred... is that really you? I guess you found your way back home after all. Now, take that bag of dead body parts down to the basement or you'll get the popsicle. | „ |
~ Labby revealing himself to be a manifestation of Alfred's rapist, his last lines. |
Laverenti Beria is the overarching antagonist of the Alfred Alfer series alongside Mom & Dad.
He was an enigmatic and abusive pedophile, zoophile and child abuser resembling the late soviet politician of the same name who would sexually and physically abuse the titular character, a dog named Alfred, causing him to develop severe mental illnesses and alternate personalities, and go on to commit mass murder, and eventually necrophilia and possible mass cyberterrorism.
In the flashback from Alfred's Playhouse, they were voiced by series creator Emily Youcis, who also voiced the title character in the same series, Labby in The Alfred Alfer Movie and Phat Dawg in Alfred Alfer and Phat Dawg, and herself in DA EMILY SHOW.
Appearance[]
Beria appears much like his real-life counterpart, a bald-headed man with a babyface and glasses. Throughout all of his appearances, he is shown wearing BDSM and holding alcoholic beverages, lube and whips while smirking suggestively at the camera or undressing Alfred with his eyes.
The real man who abused Alfred, shown in a framed photo, is a similarly slim bald man, who wears a suit and appears roughly twice Alfred's height.
Biography[]
After the parents of the already traumatised Alfred the dog abandoned him to go to a rodeo, Alfred came into the care of a bald man who would eventually become known to the former as Beria. Beria would sadistically molest Alfred in the secrecy of their house and sodomise him with phallic foods like pickles and popsicles, which earned Alfred the nickname Pickles. This abuse was so consistent that Alfred's subconscious developed DID, creating an alternate personality to help Alfred disassociate and forget about the abuse, which would eventually become cognizant of its situation and begin to sabotage, ruin and eventually take over Alfred's already miserable adult life years later as an act of revenge.
Whether Beria still lives in Alfred's house, abandoned Alfred after a while or was murdered by Pickles during his serial murder/rape rampage and reign over Alfred's body is left ambiguous.
Identity[]
The true identity of Alfred's abusers is never shown, but it's heavily implied that Beria is responsible for Alfred's sexual trauma.
Lavrenti Beria was a Soviet politician and one of the longest-serving and most influential of Joseph Stalin's secret police chiefs. He appears constantly during the Alfred series. While never being shown directly harming Alfred (his worst shown offense is smiling while watching Alfred get molested by the Playhouse Friends), the real-life Beria was a malicious ephebophile who would commonly abduct and molest young schoolgirls (coincidentally, one of Alfred's alters is also a childish, girly persona who is commonly shown wearing schoolgirl outfits and is even referred to as "Schoolgirl Alfie" in Schoolgirl Alfred in "I Remember You" whom Beria eyefucks perversely in the former's first appearance), and was also specifically talked about and praised as a rapist in the announcement post for Alfred's Playhouse, strongly implying that Lavrenti was one of the people who raped Alfred.
With the constant featuring of controversial political figures like Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin throughout the early days of the Alfred series during Alfred's mental-illness-induced hallucinations and breakdowns, it would make sense to assume that Laverenti is on par with the other Playhouse Friends, specifically the ones who are implied to be representative of Alfred's sexual abuse, the only thing setting him apart from the others being the fact that he's the only person who appears outside Alfred's mind (although this could simply be chalked up to an oversight or visual gag).
However, in the very last Alfred short, Ascent of Alfred, numerous shots of Alfred's home are shown, with one very interesting one being a family photo featuring Alfred, a pair of girl with their faces scribbled out or obscured by sun glare, and a balding man with glasses strongly resembling Beria, which would heavily imply that Alfred's abuser was indeed Lavrenti, or at least a man who closely resembled him (skinny middle-aged balding men with glasses aren't completely unheard of) who Alfred began referring to as Beria with the former's strange obsession with controversial political figures.
Apparitions[]
Beria is never shown directly hurting Alfred, although his abuse is shown metaphorically, taking on forms of characters in Alfred's mind.
Labby[]
“ | Shoulda had you taken out back and shot. | „ |
~ Labby encouraging Alfred to commit suicide in "Dead Girl Strip Club". |
Labby is a large, black dog with glowing red eyes, a purple fedora, an evil yellow grimace and a flying black-and-white striped car. He's a clear representation of Alfred's owners, as he is clearly someone who Alfred trusts, only to be abandoned, driven to near suicide, and raped by Labby, with Labby even baring a popsicle against Alfred exactly like his owners did before they molested him with it, with the playhouse friends reacting the exact same way they did during the Alfred's Playhouse popsicle flashback. Additionally, Labby's description matches the title of the Led Zeppelin song "Black Dog", which was the song that played during the rape scene in Alfred's Playhouse Part 3. Labby was originally created by Jimmy Screamerclauz, who created the film Where The Dead Go To Die (and also voiced Labby during some portions of The Alfred Alfer Movie), which Labby is also the main antagonist of. In this film, he is a pedophillic rapist, similar to Alfred's abusers.
The Littles[]
“ | I have a secret! I have friends who live inside my walls. But I can't tell anybody. Come on! | „ |
~ Alfred telling the audience about The Littles before beckoning them forth. |
Numerous (two) times throughout the series is Alfred violated by small hordes of miniature mouselike people known as The Littles. In all their appearances, Alfred is ambushed by the silly and seemingly innocent creatures as they begin to tickle him and play, much to the delight and amusement of Alfred, before they descend into spewing on each other, eating shit, molesting Alfred, etc., which always distresses and scares Alfred. This implies that the person who would abuse Alfred (or one of the people, should there be more than one) would take advantage of Alfred's innocence and make it out like they were simply playing with each other.
The Eggberts[]
“ | Hey hey mama, gonna make you move. Gon' make you sweat, gon' make you groove. | „ |
~ The Eggberts singing Led Zeppelin's "Black Dog" while they rape Alfred. |
The Eggberts are recurring characters in Alfred's Playhouse, who often appear doing their own thing in the first parts, smoking meth and sodomising each other with candy-cane-shaped dildos while Alfred hurts himself. In Part 3, as Alfred falls into a pit of self-pity, the Eggberts tuck Alfred into his bed lovingly as he affirms their love for him, along with the other playhouse friends. This peace is interrupted when Alfred finds himself bound to his bed, his rear in the air. One Eggbert begins singing "Black Dog" to Alfred while the rest descend upon Alfred with their candy cane dildos, implying that Alfred may have had several people descend upon him at once. Additionally, the shots of them dancing and sodomising each other gleefully while Alfred self harms could imply that Alfred learned to self harm from whoever the Eggberts represent, who would force him to do it for them while they got their rocks off.
Steve Martin[]
“ | Get out of bed, but don't wonder how the blood got there! (Good MORNING.) If Steve Martin violated you in your sleep again, you will not care! | „ |
~ Alfred alluding to being violated in his sleep by "Steve Martin". |
Alfred mentions being "violated by Steve Martin in his sleep again", resulting in him waking up in a bed full of blood, which he ignores with the help of the playhouse. The blood in Alfred's bed is heavily implied to not be a result of "Steve Martin", as the blood is shown to actually be a result of Alfred's brutal self-harm, which could be what Martin represents.
Paul Thomas[]
“ | What's the fuss? Tell me, what's-a happening? | „ |
~ Paul Thomas singing while he attempts to rape Alfred. |
Paul Thomas is the titular main antagonist of the Emily Youcis animated short Jesus Christ Porn Star, who "takes Alfred, a dog, back to his porno directing lair and odd things ensue", those odd things being that he tries to rape Alfred before being interrupted by Jesus Christ, who scolds him. While this short has nothing to do with the main Alfred story, Paul is seen for a split second during the rape sequence in Alfred's Playhouse Part 3, which could technically make him on par with the other apparitions of Alfred's abusers.
Quotes[]
“ | Your playhouse friends will always love and be around you. They won't abandon you when you're in the tub, and try and drown you! If you don't want that guy's sticky stuff in your hair, just click your heels three times, and you're away from there! Forget about the humiliation and shame... your innocence is not being snatched from you... because you're sitting here putting tape on your face and trying on hats at ALFRED'S PLAYHOOOOOOUSE! | „ |
~ Alfred coping with the trauma left by his caretakers. |
“ | See you in hell, bitch. | „ |
~ Labby abandoning Alfred at Where The Dead Go To Die. |
“ | Oh, and check out this coy little man here in the picture slot. His name is Lavrenti Beria, and he was Stalin's little henchman/rapist/torchurist/SADIST!!!! He is coy. He is sexy. I love him. Does anyone think he's sexy? I'd like to cover this man in oil, grease up his bald head, oh he is coy isnot he - GIVE INTO ABSOLUTE COYNESS. Look at him there, he looks so innocent doesnt he - but no - he's a sadistic little man, oh he looks so cute and nice, but he will rape you. YAY!! | „ |
~ Emily Youcis talking about Lavrenti Beria in the announcement post for "Alfred's Playhouse", foreshadowing his appearance in "Alfred's Playhouse" and foreshadowing his role that he's Alfred's rapist. |
“ | Sometimes, people do things to you that feel good, but are actually bad. And when someone says anything bad to you, you just say no! | „ |
~ Alfred's only lines in his 'Where The Dead Go To Die' cameo, possibly referencing his sexual assault, along with the events of the film's first chapter. |
Trivia[]
- Whether Beria actually physically appears at any point or is just a hallucination for the entirety of the series is entirely ambiguous.
- Beria is shown wearing cartoonishly perverted BDSM wear for all of his appearances, which fits with Alfred's odd imagination. Additionally, he seems perfectly aware of the Playhouse Friends on several occasions, and also seems to have no problem with the volume of rotting corpses in his home (although with his ambiguous and sadistic personality, one could assume that he was okay with it, however this is unknown), which strongly suggests that the version of Beria we see is a hallucination.
- While there's a few things that suggest otherwise, although they can all be explained easily:
- It's unclear why Alfred would need to actively escape his sexual abuse if Beria was absent, but with how APH likely takes place after Rise of Alfred, one could theorise that he's using the Playhouse to cope with his mental-breakdown-induced slaughter of the Burritobell Workers.
- On the topic of Burritobell, considering that Alfred never got a job again after his massacre, it's unclear how he was able to continue to pay to live in his house, although it could be assumed that the place is simply abandoned.
- It's unclear who the package being delivered by the Fed-X Mailman was for, but it implies that someone in the house ordered something. This would imply that Beria ordered the package, considering that Alfred is jobless and also pays no attention to the package, however one could assume that Alfred ordered it before he lost his job and forgot about it.
- This is the only portrayal of Beria to be a zoophile.
- Beria is the only confirmed human villain to be based in the reality of the Alfred canon outside of Alfred's mind, although whether or not he is really Beria or a lookalike is ambiguous.
- Beria appears in the 2009 shitpost Alfred Tribute by Emily Youcis, which was just clips from Rise of Alfred, Alfred's Playhouse and Alfred Christ edited together choppily and overlayed with voice-lines and footage from "The legend of zelda - CD-I". At the end, however, in the shot of Alfem sitting on the floor in front of Beria and talking about her leg, instead of describing her self harm, she turns and looks behind her, horrified, before the scene abruptly cuts to Beria sitting on Alfred Christ's throne and holding the leash of Alfred, who is on his knees and mindlessly sucking off another man in front of him while eerie music plays. This could be an example of Beria's abuse, but it's likely not meant to be taken seriously as after a few seconds, Beria turns into Pickles the Drummer from Metalpocalypse.
