Lazlo is a supporting character in the 2025 Disney+ animated anthology series Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld. He is the Duros leader of a criminal gang on Duro and mentor of Cad Bane.
He was voiced by Philip Anthony-Rodriguez, who also voiced the Bith gang member in Tales and Fifth Brother in Star Wars Rebels.
Biography[]
Lazlo led a gang that included Vak Lako, Tay Grutty and a Bith. He was at odds with a Duro kingpin who owned a secret casino in a local grocery store, whose operations clashed with his business interests. As Lazlo was observing the shop, he noticed two street children, Colby and Niro, being scolded by the kingpin and began observing them. After watching them trick and steal food from a protocol droid, Lazlo approached them as they were eating their stolen fruit. He complimented their scam and tossed them a coin, which he told them was an investment. Colby and Niro spent it on candy at the grocery store.
The next morning, Lazlo woke up the boys and commented on them indulging themselves on the previous night. He offered them an opportunity for more profits, and the kids followed him. As they were walking through the streets, Niro asked Lazlo about his limping leg, to which Lazlo replied that the "first rule of business" was not to ask questions. Lazlo was slightly annoyed when Niro used these words against him, as he took them to the grocery store. He told the boys of his conflict with the casino owner and offered to pay them five times yesterday's money if they helped him disrupt the shop's secret business, promising that the task wouldn't be hard. Lazlo agreed to Colby's request for them to be paid ten times the previous amount and enlisted them.
Colby and Niro distracted the casino owner as Lazlo and his gang executed the heist. They snuck into the grocery store, gunning down the shopkeeper and the Twi'lek associate before destroying the casino and robbing its stash of coins. After running out of the shop, Lazlo shot the kingpin dead and fled with his gang to their speeder. When Niro was caught by the police, Lazlo had Colby leave him behind as they made their escape. Lazlo gave Niro's share of the profits to Colby and welcomed him into the gang.
Lazlo continued to mentor Colby throughout his adolescence. He later embarked on a mission to the same city where he found Colby, who was now called Cad Bane. Bane insisted on accompanying him, but Lazlo didn't want Bane to make their business personal and ordered him to take care of operations in their store. Lazlo told Bane's girlfriend Arin to keep an eye on him, before departing with the Bith gang member. During the mission, Lazlo was killed by the marshal, leaving only his hat behind in his vessel. The Bith managed to fly back to their hideout and inform Bane of Lazlo's death before succumbing to a wound. Bane sought revenge, eventually killing the marshal, and also started wearing Lazlo's hat.
Legacy[]
Although Bane killed the marshal, Arin forced him to surrender to the authorities lead by his old friend Niro and locked up on Torano. After his death, two of Lazlo's thugs, Vak Lako and Tay Grutty continued to serve Bane. Bane was released from prison 5 years early on a technicality and made his way back to his old neighborhood to settle scores with Niro and Arin, although he found out Arin died a couple years while he was in prison. Lako and Grutty took out Niro's police droids, but both got killed in the process. A blaster duel ensued between the two best friends, and Bane fatally shot Niro in cold blood. With Niro's dying breath, Bane realized that Niro's adopted son, Isaac, was both Arin's and his own. Despite the blood bond, Bane chose not to take Isaac with him, thus leaving the city where it all began and where it all ended.
