The Leafbug Tribes are minor antagonists in the 2019 role-playing video game Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling. As their name implies, they are hostile tribes of leafbugs who will attack anyone treading into their territory in Wild Swamplands, and since they do not speak Bugnish like all other bug species, they cannot be reasoned with diplomatically.

Biography[]

Leafbugs lived in the Wild Swamplands, constantly adapting to their dangers and shifting landscape, which prevented them from settling down and advancing technologically. Kabbu had few encounters them in past, and as such he is aware of the danger they pose and knows they cannot be reasoned with due to the language barrier between them.

Team Snakemouth and Maki first encounter Leafbug Tribes in Chapter 5: The Far Wildlands, in which they ambush the group and attempt to kill them for trespassing their territory. Team Snakemouth and Maki successfully defeat them and send them running. As the group lament the fact they are incapable of communicating with them, they decide to pass through the Wild Swamplands with minimal violence, knowing that they are trespassing in their homelands.

Later, the group encounters Leafbugs as common enemies in the Wild Swamplands. When the group attempts to cross the bridge, the Leafbugs on its opposite side notice them and destroy the bridge while the team was in the middle of it, throwing Team Snakemouth and Maki into opposite directions and injuring Maki's leg in process, which made Team Snakemouth vow revenge on the Leafbugs.

As Team Snakemouth reaches the exit of the Wild Swamplands, Leafbugs attempt to fight them one last time, but they were interrupted by the Beast, who scatters them around while trying to prey on Kabbu and his friends.

Leafbugs also appear post-game in the "Confidential" sidequest, where, when Maki and Kina enlist Team Snakemouth's help to protect Yin while she pupates, hordes of Leafbugs appear, allured by Yin's potent magic, and try to kidnap her for unclear reasons. Team Snakemouth, along with Team Maki, manages to defeat Leafbugs once more, forcing them to retreat.

Bestiary[]

Leafbug Ninja[]

The most cunning of the Leafbugs, the ninja faction hides in plain sight while hunting prey. Using methods modern science still cannot comprehend, they are able to clone themselves. The clones have mass and can cause damage, yet disappear upon being hit. There is a reward posted for any researcher who manages to replicate the technique.
~ Leafbug Ninja's bestiary entry.
I was hoping to avoid such a confrontation... Everyone! These Leafbugs are extremely skilled! Not only do they hold powerful strikes, they can even multiply! We'll have to hit many of them at once!
~ Kabbu's spy notes on a Leafbug Ninja.
Eep! Oi, don't just come out of nowhere! And stop kicking me! Kabbu said they can clone or whatever... Doesn't matter. I'll just beat them all up!
~ Vi's spy notes on a Leafbug Ninja.
Nice moves. Kinda wish we could double ourselves too. We're kind of in a hurry, so it'd be best to freeze them all simultaneously.
~ Leif's spy notes on a Leafbug Ninja.

Leafbug Archer[]

The archer faction is the most territorial of the Leafbugs, firing a volley of arrows at any who approach them. Sometimes they get too into their job, and accidentally fire upon their allies. No one dares complain, lest they get shot again.
~ Leafbug Archer's bestiary entry.
Ngh, what powerful arrows! They make focusing on the enemy before me much more difficult. Vi, Leif, I trust you to deal with them while I clear out the rest! Watch out for reinforcements!
~ Kabbu's spy notes on Leafbug Archer.
Bring it on! It's bow vs. Beemerang! A super long-range battle! They hurt a lot but look wimpy... Maybe we should focus on them first before they call for help!
~ Vi's spy notes on Leafbug Archer.
That bow's no joke, it's packing quite the sting. Maybe we can freeze its string. They're definitely annoying enough that it's worth focusing them down. Let's get on it, Vi, before they call for backup.
~ Leif's spy notes on Leafbug Archer.

Leafbug Clubber[]

Possessing enough strength to topple branches, the clubber faction forms the frontline of the Leafbugs. They are cocky and proud, constantly demanding payment for every little thing they do. Even when denied, they're all too happy to fight and show off.
~ Leafbug Clubber's bestiary entry.
Hmph. The cocky energy I feel from this enemy is appalling. I'll make sure to tank their hubris and give my team the chance to strike!
~ Kabbu's spy notes on Leafbug Clubber.
Grrr... Don't go thinking you're strong just cuz you can lift a big stick! It's all about technique! Time to show 'em what real skills look like!
~ Vi's spy notes on Leafbug Clubber.
What are they doing with that club? Did they just taunt us?...We'll see if they don't regret it after we're done with them.
~ Leif's spy notes on Leafbug Clubber.
