~ Leah to Daryl. |
Leah Shaw is a major antagonist in AMC's The Walking Dead. She serves as the secondary antagonist for most of Season 11. She is the former second in command and de facto leader of the Reapers as well as a former lover of Daryl Dixon. Following the downfall of the Reapers, she seeks revenge against Maggie Rhee.
She was portrayed by Lynn Collins.
Biography[]
Background[]
After the world ended, she met up with her squad and they survived for a year together until one day their camp was overrun. Leah took Matthew and Dog's mother and fled the camp. She would later find out that he was bitten and put him out of his misery. The same day Matthew died, Dog was born.
Falling in love with Daryl Dixon[]
During the six years following Rick Grimes' supposed death, Daryl Dixon encounters Leah while living in the woods and they slowly fall in love each other. Leah reveals her tragic backstory to him while Daryl reveals his fruitless search for Rick's body. The two spend the better part of a year together, but Leah grows frustrated with Daryl's continued search for a man who, as far as he knows, is dead and pushes Daryl to make a choice between his family and her. One day, Dog leads Daryl back to Leah's cabin which he finds trashed and no sign of Leah or her son's picture. Daryl leaves Leah a message telling him to find him and that he belongs with her.
Daryl later returns to the cabin with Carol, but he finds no sign of Leah or that she had ever returned. Carol later exiles Negan to Leah's cabin for a time before he chooses to return to live in Alexandria.
The Reapers[]
Unbeknownst to Daryl, Leah was found by her old military squad who had survived the attack on their camp by the herd. Leah rejoins the squad, who are now the Reapers who raid and destroy various settlements for supplies. One such settlement that falls to the Reapers is Meridian where Maggie Rhee's people live. Leah and the Reapers slaughter most of the people and take Meridian for themselves with Maggie and the survivors fleeing to Alexandria. One of the Reapers, Montanio, follows them and kills several of Maggie's people, but he is defeated and commits suicide after telling Maggie that she has been "marked" by Pope.
Needing food, Maggie leads a team back to Meridian in order to exact vengeance upon the Reapers and to reclaim the food supply. Leah and a number of Reapers, including Brandon Carver, ambush the team, killing most of them. During the ambush, Leah is reunited with Dog and Daryl who were a part of the team and captures them. Leah eventually convinces Pope to allow Daryl to join the Reapers, unaware that he is actually on Maggie's side and is infiltrating the group. During a patrol, Daryl and Leah encounter a man and his family. Despite orders to kill any other survivors, Leah allows the man and his son to go, but hesitates to mercy kill the dying wife at her own request, something that Daryl ends up doing for her instead.
Eventually, Maggie, Negan, Elijah and Gabriel Stokes besiege Meridian using a massive herd and Whisperer tactics. Daryl reveals his true allegiance to Leah in an effort to get her to switch sides. With Pope becoming increasingly unstable and willing to sacrifice his own people whom Leah considers her family, Leah helps Daryl to disarm the Reapers' hwacha and personally kills Pope. Leah then betrays Daryl, blaming him for Pope's murder, insisting that she needs to protect her family. Leah allows Daryl to flee as she turns the hwacha on the herd, destroying it and accidentally killing Fisher. However, Maggie's group manages to escape into Meridian where they engage in a cat and mouse game with the surviving Reapers. After capturing Carver, Daryl contacts Leah and offers to trade him for Meridian's food supply as a way to save both of their families. Leah initially gets the upper hand using a sniper, but Gabriel takes him out and takes possession of his gun. Leah finally agrees to Daryl's deal, but as she, Boone and Washington leave, the vengeful Maggie opens fire, killing Boone and Washington and wounding Leah. As Maggie finishes off Carver, Daryl finds Leah, now the last surviving Reaper, and allows her to escape, warning that if he ever sees her again, he will kill her.
Seeking Revenge[]
Over the next six months, Leah devolves into a brutal ruthless survivor with nothing left to lose who wants revenge upon Maggie for the deaths of her family. Leah ambushes a Commonwealth weapons' convoy, brutally murdering the soldiers and taking their weapons even as one of them begs for his life. Leah's actions are blamed on the survivors of Riverbend, leading to Lance Hornsby sending an invasion force there to retake the Commonwealth's missing weapons. On their way to help, Maggie, Elijah and Lydia encounter and put down three of the zombified soldiers that Leah had killed and note the military precision with which they were taken down.
Lance and his men eventually track down Leah, but Lance offers her a deal as they both want Maggie dead. Lance hires Leah as an assassin to take out Maggie, providing her with a team of Commonwealth soldiers as backup. However, Leah only uses the soldiers as a distraction and they are killed in a booby-trap set by Maggie, Lydia and Marco. Revealing herself after the explosion, Leah kills Marco and chases Maggie into the woods, leading to a cat and mouse game between them before Leah finally captures Maggie.
Death[]
After capturing Maggie, Leah takes her back to Leah's old cabin where Leah reveals that she intends to exact revenge by killing everyone that Maggie loves in front of her before finally killing Maggie herself. Maggie knows that Leah thinks that it will take away her pain, but also that it won't work and taunts Leah to kill her if she really wants to. Maggie manages to break free leading to a brutal fight between the two women with Leah eventually gaining the upper hand. As Maggie struggles to keep Leah from stabbing her, Daryl arrives, having realized that Leah was responsible and having tracked her back to the cabin that they had once spent so much time in together. Daryl shoots Leah in the head to save Maggie, killing his former lover. After a brief look of sadness at her dead body, Daryl turns his attention to the approaching Lance Hornsby and his men. When Lance enters the cabin after being shot in the face by Daryl, he is enraged to find Leah's body on the floor and Daryl and Maggie gone.
