Leanne Platter is a character from King of the Hill, serving as the main antagonist of the Season 2 episode, Leanne's Saga. She is Luanne Platter's alcoholic mother who was briefly arrested after a violent altercation where she stabbed Luanne's father Hoyt with a fork.
She was voiced by Pamela Adlon, who also voiced Bobby Hill in the same show, and Eileen the Birthday Girl in Wordgirl.
Background[]
Leanne was mentioned in the first episode of the series, where Luanne came to Hank in tears saying that her mother was taken to jail after trying to stab her father with a fork.
Leanne made her first physical appearance in a later episode, where she was released from prison and stayed with the Hills. Luanne was excited to finally see her again. However, since their old trailer got destroyed while she was still in jail, Luanne decides to quit beauty school so she can find employment and rent an apartment with her mother. Leanne approves of this decision. However, Peggy discourages this, offering for Leanne to stay with the Hills. Much to Hank's chagrin, Leanne decides to stay in the garage. Later, Leanne meets Bill and the two hit it off, spending the night together. Because of her romance with Bill, Leanne begins paying less attention to her daughter, who is stood up by her during a mother-daughter hair day at the beauty school. The next night, Leanne is hanging out with Bill again. However, when she goes to massage his feet, she discovers that he has a fungus that he can no longer afford medication for. Repulsed by this, Leanne goes to the refrigerator and grabs a beer. After downing the entire can, she sports an evil grin, having officially relapsed. The next morning, Bill comes into the living room with a clearly intoxicated Leanne and announces that they are getting engaged. However, Leanne punches him in the arm for spoiling the surprise. While Luanne is distraught that her mother refuses to spend time with her, she will not acknowledge the fact that her mother does not care for her like she should. Meanwhile, Hank tries to warn Bill about Leanne's history of violence. However, Bill merely shrugs this off and happily announces that Leanne is moving in with him. However, Leanne begins frequently abusing him to the point where he has visible bruises all over his arms and has to wear sunglasses to cover up a black eye. Later, Leanne and Bill hold a barbecue, where Leanne once again gets drunk. At one point, she tries to give a lap dance to Luanne's boyfriend Buckley, who says, "Help! Get this skank off me!" This enrages Leanne, who grabs a fork, prepared to stab Buckley like she did with her husband. However, before she can do any damage, Peggy grabs Leanne's wrist. She tells Leanne that until she can live without alcohol, she can leave. Leanne drops the fork and gives everyone a apology, vowing to change her ways. However, it immediately becomes clear that she was just being deceptive because the second Peggy turns her back, Leanne attacks her. However, Peggy manages to fight her off. Leanne decides to leave the party and tells Luanne to come with her. However, Luanne, now able to see her mother for who she truly is, refuses. A furious Leanne disowns Luanne, saying, "You ain't my sister no more," and drives off in Bill's truck.
Trivia[]
- Due to her obsession of looking young she prefers to call Luanne her "baby sis" or "sister" and told Luanne not to call her "mom".
