Ledina is the main antagonist of the anime movie Doraemon: Nobita's the Legend of the Sun King. She is the former royal sorceress of Mayana, before being exiled by the Queen for her usage of dark magic on innocent people. From then on, she is determined to get revenge on the kingdom at all cost, while also seeking immortality via possessing Prince Theo. She is also Prince Theo's archenemy.
She was voiced by Jun Karasawa.
Appearance[]
Ledina appears as a woman with pale skin and purple marks under her eyes. She has red lipstick, long nails and wears a Mayan dress. After being stripped of her powers by the sun, she reverts to her true form as an old, decrepit woman.
Personality[]
Ledina is a cruel and sadistic sorceress who is bent on getting revenge on the Kingdom of Mayana. She relies primarily on her magic and rituals, and likes using them on innocent people. This also makes her a hypocrite in that instead of realizing that her banishment was her own fault for using dark magic, she instead blames the Queen and wants to possess her son, Prince Theo, as a revenge.
As with everyone else in Mayana, Ledina is strange to technology. When she sees Nobita, at the time disguising as Theo, using Doraemon's gadget to make rain, she is shocked to see "Theo" suddenly gaining magic and decides to accelerate her plan, which she does by kidnapping Kuku and blackmailing Theo to come to the Temple of Darkness to save her. Even when Theo reveals himself and demands her to release Nobita, who at the time she believes to be him, she still continues to try to sacrifice Nobita anyways, although this is also because she is running out of time.
Besides revenge, part of the reason Ledina needs Theo is to attain immortality, via possessing his body to rule Mayana, with the intention of repeating the process with his descendants. It's also ultimately revealed that her current youthful appearance is a result of attaining immortality as well, as she reveals herself to be incredibly old upon losing all of her powers.
History[]
Ledina was once Mayana's royal sorceress. However, she used dark magic on innocent people, leading the Queen to banish her from the kingdom. Seeking revenge for this, Ledina cursed the kingdom with disastrous natural phenomena and put the Queen to an endless sleep. Prince Theo sought to lift the curse at all cost and even sacrificed people to the cenote with no result. He also led his army to fight her without victory, not only due to her magic and immortality but also her generals, Yafoo the King of Animals, Ketsual the King of Medicines and Coatol the King of Spears.
When Nobita disguises himself as Theo, he uses Doraemon's gadget to make rain in order to rescue a girl from being sacrificed to the cenote. Ledina witnesses this and believes that Theo has gained magical powers and decides to accelerate her revenge plan. She has Yafoo kidnap Kuku, knowing Theo's crush on her, and demands him to come to the Temple of Darkness to rescue her alone. He agrees and tells Takao and Moka not to tell anyone.
However, the main characters manage to follow Theo, who finally lets them to accompany him. Ledina sends Yafoo to attack them, and one of Yafoo's vultures manages to grab Theo, only for the latter to hit it and make it let him go. However, as they're on the sky, he falls and gets unconscious. Meanwhile, Doraemon defeats Yafoo by throwing Balloon Bubblegum in the alligator's mouth, caused the King of Animals to float away. Sensing this, Ledina tells Ketsual to deal with the group. He blackmails them not to go further, but they refuse to listen and continue their journey.
After the main characters reach the Temple of Darkness, Ledina reveals that she actually intends to use Kuku as a bait for Theo to come so that she can use a ritual to possess him and rule Mayana, and will repeat the same process with his descendants. She demands Nobita, who she believes to be Theo, to come forward. Suneo is about to reveal the truth but Nobita tells him not to say anything and accepts. As Nobita reaches the altar, he uses the Swapping Blanket to swap Kuku with a giant statue head and runs away. However, Ledina's pet vulture manages to grab him. Before she can sacrifice him, Takao and Moka leads the men of Mayana to attack her. Just then the real Theo shows up and demands her to release Nobita, but she continues with the latter anyway as she has little time left. Thankfully, the sunlight reflects into Kuku's necklace on Nobita's neck, momentarily blinding Ledina, allowing Nobita and Theo to overpower her and kick her with her crystal skull. Ledina falls from the tower just as the eclipse ends, revert her back to her true form as an old woman. Seeking revenge, she attempts to destroy the temple to kill both Theo and Nobita, but fails as well. She and her generals are later seen attending Theo's coronation, implying that they are now forced to serve him.
