| ~ The Leechmonger Archstone. |
The Leechmonger, formerly known as Risaia of Istarel, is a minor antagonist and boss in Demon's Souls, as well as its 2020 remake of the same name.
Biography[]
Risaia of Istarel was a priestess who aided Maiden Astraea in her passage through the Valley of Defilement, a land left to waste by the kingdom of Boletaria. During the expedition, Risaia was attacked and killed by Giant Depraved Ones, and her corpse landed in a mass of leeches. When Colorless Fog came across the Valley of Defilement from the awakening of the Old One, Risaia's corpse became the source for the Wriggling Demon's Soul, transforming her into the hostile Leechmonger. The demon fed upon all humans who fell into its habitat.
The Leechmonger is the first boss fought by the Slayer of Demons in the Valley of Defilement, found in a box full of leeches. The player starts out with the boss in the distance. The Leechmonger's only attack here is to spit out a ball of leeches at the player. The player is free to use a bow and arrow or spells to attack Leechmonger, but before long it will summon a "ring" of leeches around itself, rapidly restoring its health until the ring falls off upon being attacked enough. At a close rate, the Leechmonger attacks the player by striking them with its arms. If the player enters the bog to get close enough to the Leechmonger to attack it with melee weapons, leeches will attach to their legs, both slowing down the player's roll dodges and slowly saps away at their health. The Leechmonger itself is not a challenging foe as it has an extreme weakness to fire and its attacks deal mild damage, but it can become somewhat of a nuisance if it manages to heal multiple times.
Once the Leechmonger goes down, it drops the Wriggling Demon's Soul.
