~ Leo disapproving his daughter's romantic relationship with Cuthbert Mukamba, simply because of their political difference. |
Leo Richardson is the overarching antagonist in "Arcadia", the second episode of Season 3 of Endeavour. He was the owner of Richardson's supermarket, which his family had been running for several generations, albeit through unscrupulous ways. He is also the husband of Annette Richardson and the father of Verity Richardson.
He was portrayed by Richard Dillane.
Biography[]
Leo Richardson was the owner of his family's supermarket and was an unscrupulous, cold-hearted and selfish control freak, valuing his own business and reputation above all else, even including what his daughter thought.
After Verity returned back from Rhodesia, whilst being pregnant with Cuthbert Mukamba's child, the Richardsons took her to an abortion, because Leo Richardson believed it was for the good of his family, as well as being unable to accept Mukamba for being a Marxist. His action caused Verity to suffer from mental illness, which was also exploited by her father as a shield to justify her abortion, causing her to make a plan along with Simon Hallward and Thelma Anne Davis to extort her father.
Throughout the days, Leo received all kinds of threats but never actually paid the ransom money. After knowing about the products of his supermarket being poisoned, Leo unwillingly shut down the associated division and cleared the whole market of products. Later, Leo expressed distress when he heard his daughter being kidnapped, and asked for the police's assistance to help them out.
After the past of Verity came to light, however, the Richardsons were confronted by Morse and Thursday for their actions that influenced her life badly. Thursday confronted Leo on his decision to declare her daughter with mental illness and sent her to a health farm, so that the reason behind her abortion would be justified.
Later, after Morse discovered about Ayesha's true identity as Thelma, he and Thursday went to confront Verity with it. Leo and Annette immediately arrived and discouraged her daughter conversing with the police, but Verity followed Morse's advice and rejected her parents. She then decided to give out everything to Morse, as her parents looked down in shame.
