~ Leol |
Leol, formerly known as Hagya, is a supporting antagonist in Hunter x Hunter. A Chimera Ant with a lion-like appearance, Leol leads a squadron notable for disobeying the orders of his queen.
He was voiced by Jiro Saito in Japanese and Jamieson K. Price in English.
Appearance[]
Leol is a lion-like chimera ant, with clay-colored skin, white hair styled into a mane-like haircut and goatee, and black stripes on his limbs. For clothing, he wears a black shirt, purple shorts, green sandals with blue, white, and red bands, bracelets like the bands on his sneakers, and a skull-shaped necklace.
Personality[]
Leol is laid-back, disobedient, and misanthropic, particularly he enjoyed killing humans for fun and remarking that it is addictive. Leol's social skills allow him to owe people a favor to him often. Leol seldom shows his Nen ability to other Chimera Ants, even lying to them about the nature of his ability due to his inability to trust others. He also enjoys listening to music quite a lot.
History[]
Hagya is one of the Squadron Leaders appointed by the Chimera Ant Queen alongside with Zazan, Cheetu, and a lot more. Despite his status, Hagya is particularly disobedient in the Queen's orders to bring humans for her apetite. He eats the humans supposedly to be offered for her. After her death, Leol and the other Chimera Ants started to become rulers to their own accord.
Later on, Hagya and his squad went to the Royal Guards currently situtated in the Palace of East Gorteau, wanting to earn an oath to the King. Shaiapouf then bestowed him a Nen ability with his cocoon, although he claimed he is rather slow as it took him three days. At some time, Hagya renamed himself as "Leol."
During the Extermination Team's mission to kill the King, Leol stalks both Knov and Morel Mackernassey, becoming obsessed in learning their Nen abilities. He cornered Morel in an underground of a cathedral, he told him that he learned his smoke ability from Cheetu. Intending to show his "ability," Leol then explains to Morel that the second album of a band named "Black Planet" is the best in his opinion before he reveals the ability is Inamura as much as to Morel's shock.
Angering Morel as he reveals that Inamura is in-fact an ability of Grachan, his friend. The two went on a battle in the cathedral as Leol uses Inamura to flood the entire room in order to corner Morel. After a short fight, Leol believes that he gained the upper hand until he became dizzy and started losing consciousness. Leol then dies underwater, revealing that Morel killed him with Hypercapnia.
Powers & Abilities[]
- Leadership: As a charismatic squadron leader, Leol has authority over his officers and peons.
- Enhanced physiology: Like most Chimera Ants, Leol's physiology is far more greater than an average human. He has powerful jaws that allows him to easily kill an adult woman in a single bite. Leol also claims that he can throw a harpoon at sonic speed. He can use telepathic communication like most ants in order to communicate on one another.
- High intellect: He is adept in making schemes against the Extermination Team in order to achieve his goals.
- Nen: Leol's Nen type is a Specialization. His ability is called I.O.U. Dispenser: Rental Pod, which allows him to borrow a Nen ability for an hour as long as he witnessed the ability being used or its name and have done the owner of the ability a favor. His stolen abilities including Flutter's Satellitonbo: Satellite Dragonflies and Grachan's TUBE: Inamura.
Trivia[]
- Leol's stolen ability is likely named after Inamura Point, a well-known surfing location in Japan.
- Leol's ability share similarities to Chrollo Lucilfer's "Skill Hunter:"
- Both characters' Nen abilities require them to witness the ability and must interact with the original owner of the ability. Should they use the stolen ability, the original owner is unable to use their ability.
- Both abilities require them to perform actions relating to their abilities within one hour. With Chrollo's case he must fulfill all of the conditions of his Nen ability while Leol can only use the stolen ability within one hour.
