Leonard is the main antagonist the The X-Files episode "Humbug". He was one of the show's many "monsters of the week" that helped to gain the show's cult status - the episode itself is known for being one of the more comedic in the series despite dark tones and violence, most of which came from Leonard and his murderous ways.

History[]

Leonard was a rare type of conjoined-twin sometimes known as a "parasitic" twin and lived inside Lanny, who was an alcoholic and slowly killing himself - this seemed to motivate Leonard into finding a new "host", as his brother was dying and by extension Leonard was in danger of dying too.

Thus Leonard began to exit his brother's body and seek out new hosts, killing them in his attempts to burrow into their bodies and presumably take them over.

Powers and Abilities[]

Leonard is a mutant that can detach from his conjoined twin, Lanny, at will and go on vicious murder sprees, trying to burrow into victims - it is even suggested near the end of the episode that Leonard is immortal and somehow living inside the Conundrum despite being eaten alive.

Trivia[]

  • Leonard is a homage to the comedy-horror antagonist Belial from Basket Case, which also revolves around a conjoined twin turned monstrous "evil twin" (though Belial was removed surgically while Leonard could detach of his own accord).
  • Parasitic twins are a real phenomena but extremely rare, in fiction they are often seen as malevolent parasites that gain sapience and either attack their host or those around them but in reality almost all parasitic twins either die in womb or shortly after: other examples of parasitic twins in fiction include Cassandra Nova from X-Men.
