Lepus, the Sorcerer is a major overarching villain of the Monica's Gang franchise.
He is the evil rabbit wizard of the Hare Constellation who longed to rule over all its inhabitants as their supreme emperor. To do so, he manipulated the three kings into going to war, thus weakening the kingdoms and opening the opportunity for him to usurp the thrones and become the supreme ruler of the rabbits and hares. He is the archenemy of Lady Monicoel and Hercoelho.
He appeared as the main antagonist of the story "The Origin of the Yellow Rabbit" and its TV adaptation of the same name, voiced by a unknown voice actor.
Biography[]
The Origin of the Yellow Rabbit[]
As Monica describes him, Lepus was an evil and cruel sorcerer who craved power and to end the peace of the kingdoms. To do so, he manipulated the three kings into discord and a war that lasted for years. Once the kingdoms were weak enough, he managed to usurp the throne and became supreme leader.
With his magic, Lepus created entire armies of creatures called Lagomonfos, monsters that resembled rabbits, to crush the resistance that had formed by the survivors of his ascension to the throne.
However, once Lady Monicoel introduced Hercoelho, a plush yellow bunny that when infused with magic turns into a powerful warrior, to the resistance, the battle began to turn against Lepus. Hercoelho defeated any creature that the wizard threw at him, eventually culminating in an epic final battle in the throne room.
Rather comically, the battle was nothing more than a video game match between the two, Hercoelho easily bested the wizard, however, as the sore loser that he was, Lepus decided to cheat and, while Hercoelho was boasting, he used his dark magic to remove the magic from Hercoelho back at a regular plushie.
When Lady Monicoel saw what had happened, Lepus mocked her, saying that "the buck-toothed, short and chubby ones always lose." This infuriated Lady Monicoel so much that, in a quick decision, she grabbed her beloved bunny by the ears and threw him at Lepus, hitting him in the back of the head and knocking him out, thus giving him the first bunnybash in history.
Lepus would then finally be arrested for his crimes, never to be seen again.
Legacy[]
Even after being defeated, Lepus' legacy influenced the entire franchise. Because of him, Hercoelho could never return to his heroic state and would remain a stuffed bunny forever. Lady Monicoel, knowing that he would be fought over and could create new wars, sent him to a distant planet, hoping that one day someone would find and care for Hercoelho and give him a toothy hug, thus receiving his strength as a gift.
The rabbit was sent to Earth, where he was found by Luísa de Sousa when she was a child. The girl loved and cared for the plush her entire life, eventually giving him to her daughter Monica. When she hugged the plush she gained his super strength, thus properly beginning the events of Monica's story.
Monica and her mother came to know the origin of the yellow rabbit through a holographic message left by Lady Monicoel, which explained the entire story. In the future, the two would say that this story was nothing more than a fairy tale that Luísa told her daughter when she was younger.
