A leshy, sometimes called a leshen or spriggan in CD PROJEKT RED's The Witcher series, is a forest monster that "lives only to kill" (Polish: Leszy, frequently spelled Leshii, Leszi, or Lessun in English). They leave very little for any carrion eaters when they kill something or someone.
Reasons for state[]
The castellan Lazare offers Geralt of Rivia a contract on an ancient leshy at the beginning of his adventure in this graphic novel for The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, but the creature later proves to be something else.
The Witcher 3[]
In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, leshens are strong, ancient woodland spirits. With tree-like branches and a deer skull for a head, a leshen can summon a band of wolves or crows for assistance. The Heart of the Wilds is a book that can be read to earn a bestiary entry, although it never shows up when playing.
Monster Hunter World[]
Physiology[]
There is nothing familiar about the biology or body structure of the Leshen. Branches emerge out of its shoulders, which may have the remains of its most recent victims hanging about them; the creature stands erect on two limbs that support an uncannily humanoid body composed of what looks to be wood, which it covers with torn clothing. With a pair of antlers that are unlike anything seen in the Old or New World, the Leshen's head resembles the skull of an animal. It appears that the Leshen's mouth, eyes, and other traits that are anticipated of a live monster's head are all nonexistent. In fact, it is not considered a living being in its own universe, but rather a spirit of nature.
Leshens has a lengthy pair of arms that terminate in razor-sharp claws, the only recognizable characteristic. Even though Leshens aren't nearly as swift or fierce in close combat as many other known-world creatures, their clever minds and magical abilities enable them to use their claws effectively. They frequently execute deceptively slow maneuvers or use teleportation to take down unsuspecting opponents from behind.
"By absorbing the rich nutrients of the New World, the creature has made itself more powerful than its average brethern in their home world," observed Geralt of Rivia, the Witcher who shared the same world as the Leshen.
Behavior and Abilities[]
Because they are very protective of their territory, leshens will attack anything that they cannot or do not want to affect with their power. According to legend, they have a keen sense of the woodlands in which they reside and will kill anyone who does not treat them with respect. Because of this, myths in its native world state that Leshens hate people for destroying forests as they build more communities.
Despite their lack of strength and agility compared to the majority of species the Commission encountered (even after consuming abundant nourishment from the New World), Leshens possess great magical skills that allow them to control nature itself.
Leshens have the ability to take over lesser creatures' brains and conjure and manipulate strangling roots from the earth. The only animals that have shown themselves susceptible to a Leshen's mind control thus far are Jagras, Gajalaka, and Revolture. Additionally, they have been shown to teleport, disintegrating into a cloud of smoke that re-forms in other places.
