Journeys made, and lessons learned, you may feel like you are alone. But no matter how much the wheels turn... the journey always ends up back at home.
~ Lesley at the end of Transport, causing the puppets to be stucked back at their house.
Yellow Guy: You didn't build all this, did you?
Lesley: That's a good question.
Yellow Guy: What's the answer? [Lesley starts laughing] What's going on? Why are you laughing?
Lesley: Because it's so FUNNNNY!
~ Lesley.

Lesley is the main antagonist of the Don't Hug Me I'm Scared TV series. She is the cruel puppet master behind the In-Universe "Show" who keeps everyone trapped in it to torture them.

She was portrayed by Vivienne Soan.

Personality[]

Lesley presents herself as playful and kind, speaking in very calming terms, and even giving Yellow Guy exactly what he wants. However, she is actually a truly masterful manipulator, as she knew exactly what would happen to Yellow Guy, and she enjoys toying with her victims, letting them get so close to answers before shoving them away.

Biography[]

Not much is known about Lesley's past, including whether or not she built the "house" that the show takes place in, or simply seized control of it at some point in time. But either way, she controls the house currently and acts through various "teachers" to torture the protagonists Yellow Guy, Duck, and Red Guy. Whenever she is done with them, she has the "teacher" iteration left dead in a vast black realm, or in the case of less fortunate ones like the Steak, who is left mangled and running around the realm begging for help. Whenever a character would die, she would replace them with a "backup" having the same memories.

Notably, despite her apparent role as the true controller of the series, it is apparent that even she may be operating according to the wishes of an even higher authority, as she describes the actions of everyone in the series as 'dancing in chains', making no effort to distinguish herself from everyone else. Her room also contains stairs to an unseen additional level, though she wards off Yellow Guy from going up any further when he points them out.

At numerous points in the series, the characters, such as Red Guy, show awareness of what is going on and that they are trapped. In episode 5 of the tv series, Red Guy escapes the "Show" to the "real" world, but Lesley quickly uses her omnipotence to bring them back to the house.

When Yellow Guy gets an intelligence boost, he goes up the levels of the house and eventually meets Lesley herself, she remarks how he is one of her "favorites" and briefly speaks with him. She cackles at him when he tries to get answers for all this. She gives him a book seemingly containing the answers to everything and sends him off. It is then revealed she was manipulating him, keeping him from going to a higher level. When Yellow Guy returns to his friends, Leslie arranges for Duck to remove his batteries, and thus Yellow Guy's intelligence; and Yellow Guy proceeds to shred the book.

Trivia[]

  • Lesley is currently the only character in the series to be portrayed by an actual human and not a puppet.
  • It's unclear what, if any connection she has to Roy, who was previously implied to be the show's mastermind. Her sudden remark that Yellow Guy was not her 'real' son could imply she is Roy's wife, or if Roy is her avatar, but this remains unconfirmed.
