Lester Ballard is the main protagonist of the late Cormac McCarthy's 1973 novel Child of God
Personality[]
He has a very twisted sense of love and sexual desires as he is necrophile, and after his first girl dies in the house fire, he starts to create dead female partners by shooting them. Ballard also makes no difference between women and young girls, as at one point he kills a little girl.
He is also racist and sexist, as throughout the novel he makes slurs about African Americans and sees women as objects.
Biography[]
In the past, when he lost his soft ball, he told a fenny boy to get it, but the boy refused; after that, he punched him in the face and broke his nose. And the boy walked away.
His father killed himself when he was young, and his mother left him.
He threatened a man who wanted to bet on his old house.
He approached a woman and tried to talk to him, and she tried to attack him when she saw his rifle. When she tried to attack him, he hit her on the face, and after that, she brought the cops on him and accused him of rape, and he tried to murder her, but the cops got him off her.
9 days and nights later, he felt the need to talk to a black person named John, and he bragged about how he cut a guy head by a knife, and he told Lester that white women are trouble, and they agree about this, and he then told him to take care when they took him away.
He eventually found two dead bodies in a car, and he got the girl and started to have sex with her, taking their money and belongings.
He took her to his home, bought her clothes, and had her for a while until his house caught fire and burned, which made something snap in him.
