Lew Vogel is one of the two main antagonists of the 2008 British crime film The Bank Job.
He is portrayed by actor David Suchet.
Biography[]
Lew Vogel is a ruthless and intimidating British mob boss in London who is involved in a gangland collusion with fellow crime lord Michael X; the pair had been harboring photos of their illegal pornography and systematic blackmail activities that practically make them unstoppable in the criminal underworld.
It soon turns out that Vogel has both corrupt police detectives Gerald Pyke and his personal subordinate Nick Barton working on his payroll. When a crew of robbers led by car salesman Terry Leather pull off a successful heist at the Baker Street Bank that involves unwittingly taking possession of the photos that were held in the area, Vogel authorizes Pyke and Nick to hunt down Terry and his crew in order to reclaim the photos. Vogel informs Michael X of the situation and argues with him for practically instigating the scenario in the first place. In the meantime, Vogel's conspirators kidnap Dave Shilling and kill him before later taking Eddie Burton captive and threatening to kill him unless Terry surrenders the photos.
Terry, though, uses his collaboration with M15 and honest policeman Roy Given to intercept Vogel and his conspirators at Paddington Station. Vogel attempts to escape, but Terry catches up with him and begins to brutally attack Vogel in revenge for Dave's murder. Terry continues to beat up Vogel until his driver and Nick intervene, but Terry overpowers them shortly before Roy Given and his police unit arrive to take everyone in custody - except for Terry and his crew whereas both Pyke and Nick get arrested for their corruption. As Vogel gets arrested, Given calls him a "filthy bastard" and has him taken away to jail. He is then sentenced to 8 years in prison.
