Lewis Prothero is a major antagonist in the 2006 dystopian action film V for Vendetta, based on the graphic novel of the same name.
He is a bigoted, self-absorbed television host who works for the Norsefire government, spreading their hateful and fascist propaganda. In the past, Prothero played an integral part in planting the seeds of Norsefire's rise to power by serving at the Larkhill Resettlement Camp, where he brutalized many of Norsefire's targeted citizens, including V.
He was portrayed by Roger Allam, who also played Arnold Royalton in Speed Racer and Illyrio Mopatis in Game of Thrones.
Appearance[]
Lewis is a pale-skinned man who is noticeably overweight. His choice of attire has a black coat, a pink shirt, and a maroon necktie.
Biography[]
After an impressive military career with numerous Middle-East missions, Lewis founded a pharmaceutical company and joined the fascist Norsefire Party, lead by fanatical Conservative politician Adam Sutler.
Later, he was appointed as commander of the Larkhill Resettlement Camp where he conducted many experiments on prisoners. He also abused and tortured at a whim. He was one of the supporters of the conspiracy that cost the lives of about a hundred thousand innocent people, caused by a bio-engineered plague he helped to develop during his days.
Shortly after Sutler was elected High-Chancellor Prothero's pharmaceutical company provided the desperately needed cure for the mysterious virus. As a "hero and patriot" he was rewarded with immense wealth and an own TV-show called "The Voice of London" and became the lead telecaster of the British Television Network (BTN).
Over the years he developed a massive narcissistic personality disorder. Every part of his luxury-apartment was covered with mirrors, so he always could admire and worship himself at any moment, even in the bathroom. Prothero also had a problem with substance abuse, regularly drinking wine in the shower right in front of a large cabinet filled with more prescription drugs than any one person would ever need. After his death, officers would note that Prothero had enough drugs in his home to start his own pharmacy.
One day, Lewis Prothero is in his home and takes a shower after a workday. Watching a recording of him, he is unsatisfied with the lighting. He then calls his boss Roger and immediately asks the director of photography to be fired without question. After, he takes his shower repeating himself what he has said in TV; that he will fight the terrorist himself if he meets him. Ironically, he discovers that V managed to break in his home much to his horror. Not recognizing him at first, he tries to call his bodyguards but V deactivated the alarm system and tells him so by calling him "commander". Asking why he calls him by this nickname, V reveals Prothero's past at Larkhill. Prothero therefore recognizes him instantly as one of his prisoners while seemingly resigning to his fate. The police finds him killed with poison by V while in the bathroom.
