“ | I could never look directly at it. The bright, arcing glow of its insides almost blinded me when I tried. It was almost a man, but I could never be sure. Its strobing, flashing Lichtenberg organs changed and flickered too fast. It… never hurt me. Not once in all the years I was chased by its… malevolence. Of course, I know why that is now, but at the time it did nothing to dull my fear. | „ |
~ Michael Crew Describing the Lichtenberg Figure. |
The Lichtenberg Figure is a minor antagonist of the Rusty Quill horror podcast The Magnus Archives.
It was an incorporeal creature made of light created by the godlike entity called the Spiral. It developed a sort of obsession with Michael Crew due to his unique scarring and began to hunt and torment him for much of his life. It was eventually trapped by the Vast inside of a supernatural book called Ex Altiora.
Appearance[]
Michael Crew described the figure almost looking like a man except that its organs shown out of it, flashing in blinding Lichtenberg patterns. Herbert Knox described it differently as a tall, branching figure made of light. Dominic Swain saw it as a fully inhuman pattern that took up the sky on a page of a book.
Personality[]
The Lichtenberg Figure seemed to have a completely alien and inhuman mindset. That being said, it developed a twisted fascination with Michael Crew due to his scars, and seemed to take sadistic pleasure in tormenting him, taking delight in his fear and suffering. It was capable of fear, and did not enjoy being trapped inside of Ex Altiora.
Biography[]
The Lichtenberg Figure was an aspect of the Spiral sent into the world sometime in the 90s.
It first turned its interest towards Michael Crew when the boy spent a night exploring the scars he had received from being struck by lightning. From that day on, it stalked him wherever he went, torturing him with illusions of lightning and storms. It eventually found his home and began giving him mentally destructive nightmares of endless corridors every night while standing outside of his window. It never harmed him physically, instead preferring to break his mind.
After stalking Michael for roughly ten years, the young man got his hands on Ex Altiora; a tome of the Vast. Using the power of that entity, Michael trapped the Lichtenberg figure inside the book. The Figure remained in the book for several years, taking over several of the pages, and watched the book get passed from hand to hand for several years. Eventually, it found itself in Gerard Keay's possession, and he burned it, which either destroyed the Lichtenberg Figure or sent it back to the spiral.
Powers and Abilities[]
The Lichtenberg Figure was an incorporeal creature and completely impossible to kill physically. It seemed to be able to appear wherever it wanted whenever it wanted, although it could not physically harm anyone. It had the ability to give insanity inducing dreams and distressing sensations and sights.
