Lieutenant Jee is a supporting character in the Netflix original TV series Avatar: The Last Airbender, based on the original animated series of the same name.
Similarly to his original animated counterpart, he serves as one of the senior officers aboard Zuko's ship and as a lieutenant of the 41st Legion. Although he opposes Prince Zuko's enemies and helps enforce Fire Nation law, his actions are framed primarily as those of a professional officer carrying out his duties rather than a villain motivated by personal malice, which positions him as an antagonist largely by virtue of his allegiance.
Lieutenant Jee is portrayed by Ruy Iskandar.
Biography[]
Past[]
Little is known about this version of Jee. He already served in the Fire Nation military and, at some point, was assigned to join Zuko's crew and assist the prince in capturing the Avatar and bringing him to the Fire Nation, supporting the Nation's wider war effort and its campaign for global dominance.
The Last Airbender[]
Jee appears frequently throughout the first season of the series. He is appointed as one of the senior commanders of Zuko's crew and serves the exiled prince in his attempt to restore his honor before his father Ozai by capturing the Avatar and bringing the master of all four elements to the Fire Nation to help secure victory in the Hundred Year War. Alongside Zuko's uncle Iroh, Jee assists Zuko and frequently offers advice to the young prince as he plans and pursues Aang and his friends.
Jee is present at many of Zuko's speeches to his officers; while he occasionally questions Zuko's decisions and comments on his leadership, he ultimately remains loyal to the prince and does not openly challenge his command. Zuko, who often struggles to control his emotions, sometimes responds by insulting Jee or bristling when the lieutenant appears to place his authority under scrutiny, creating tension between commander and subordinate. Jee is also caught between his obligations to Zuko and the authority of Admiral Zhao, a ruthless officer who plans the destruction of the Northern Water Tribe's waterbenders, leaving Jee's loyalties under strain.
Jee is present when Zuko is nearly killed by Zhao, who plants explosives on the prince's ship in an attempt to eliminate a rival in the hunt for Aang. After Zuko survives the blast, Iroh orders Jee to help his nephew recover from his injuries. Jee is last seen at the Siege of the Northern Water Tribe, where he participates in the Fire Nation assault under Zhao's command. His ultimate fate is left ambiguous: he is not shown after the defeat of the Fire Nation forces, and while it is implied at one point that he and his crew may have escaped the battle, the series does not confirm whether he survived.
