Lieutenant Shockley Tawes is the supporting antagonist of the Criminal Minds episode "Self-Fulfilling Prophecy". Tawes is an employee at the Somerville Military Academy and an accomplice ordered by Colonel Ron Massey into actively participating in covering up the school's history of hazing and murder.

He's portrayed by George Gerdes.

Biography[]

Tawes, the supervisor of the cadets at the camp, was ordered by Massey to bury the hazing of Bailey Shelton that drove him to suicide. Bailey's closest friend and confidant was Josh Redding, and as he planned to tell Bailey's family the truth, Massey decided to lie to Bailey's father Chris Shelton that Josh was Bailey's bully, hoping Chris would kill Josh in a rage. Chris read Bailey's journal and found out the names of the cadets actually responsible, and he found out they were headed for a survival expedition with Tawes. Oblivious to Chris' changing plans, Massey had Tawes text the coordinates of the expedition to Chris, and in that regard, Chris hanged all the cadets he could find, beating Tucker Calhoun, Bailey's worst bully, before he was killed. Chris went after Josh from believing he was in on everything, so Josh constructed a fatal wartime trap that killed Chris to protect himself.

Massey tried to cover up everything with lies to the BAU, including continuously pointing the blame at Josh. Josh is still at large, so Massey orders Tawes to kill him and silence his testimony. Tawes tracks Josh to the car the cadets were transported him, and he tried to force his way in. When Josh fights back, Tawes pulls him out and tries to beat him to death, but the agents stop him. Tawes refuse to surrender and tries to shoot them, Agent Aaron Hotcher shooting Tawes instead to incapacitate him. Redding is rescued and returned to his family, and and Massey and Tawes are and incarcerated for all their crimes.
