Some see the Techrot as a disaster. I see the opportunity to remake this city, my city. No more of the laziness, the blasphemy, the mental rot. This is my chance to purge, to cleanse, to make this city powerful once again.
~ Viktor talking about his plans for Höllvania.

Lieutenant Viktor Vodyanoi is a supporting antagonist in the MMO third-person shooter Warframe.

He is the official second-in-command and, following the disappearance of Major Neci Rusalka, acting leader of the Scaldra. With the city-state of Höllvania under martial law to contain the national outbreak of a mutagenic disease known as the Techrot in the year 1999, Viktor seeks to impose his ideals of fundamentalism and social darwinism upon its citizens.

He is voiced by Neil Newbon, who also voiced Karl Heisenberg from Resident Evil: Village, Nicholai Ginovaef in Resident Evil 3, as well as Elijah Kamski and Gavin Reed in Detroid: Become Human.

Appearance[]

Viktor is a young man with unkempt black hair, a short beard and green eyes. He has two ring piercings on his lower lip and several tattoos over his upper body, most notably a snake that coils down his left arm. He usually wears an open jacket with Efervon tubes integrated into it, as well as tight-fitting black pants.

Personality[]

Viktor is an arrogant and cruel man who firmly believes in his own superiority and the righteousness of Scaldra's hold over Höllvania. A devout follower of a local religion that sees the Sun and the Moon (referred to as Sol and Lua, respectively) and disdains those who stray from it, imposing its ideals upon the troops he commands. He holds a firm hatred of anything connected to the Techrot, which includes the Hex, an international team that were augmented with it against their will by the time-travelling Orokin scientist Albrecht Entrati and oppose the Scaldra.

He also has a personal appreciation for military hardware, being particularly proud of the H-09 Efervon Tank and its destructive potential, viewing it as a perfect symbol of the Scaldra's power and being distraught when it is both corrupted by the Techrot and subsequently destroyed.

Biography[]

Little to nothing is known about Viktor's past, other than that he's managed to secure his position as the second-highest ranked member of the Scaldra military organization next to Major Rusalka herself. He and the Hex have dealt with each other on numerous occasions, harboring a particular disdain for their leader Arthur Nightingale.

The Hex[]

In their efforts to stop the apocalyptic plans of the Indifference in the far future of the Origin System, both Albrecht Entrati and the Drifter travelled to the distant past of 1999. Albrecht arrived first, using his vast knowledge of the Infestation and the Void to create partial-Warframes from six unwilling test subjects, which would become known as the Hex. Resenting him for forcing the transformation on them, the Hex were both hunted by the Scaldra for their connection to the disease ravaging Höllvania and hunting Albrecht to force him to reverse the mutation.

WarframeViktorInterrogation

Viktor, Rusalka and Albrecht in an interrogation cell.

The Scaldra declared Albrecht as the originator of the Techrot and the Hex as a terrorist cell working for him, hunting them with merciless aggression. The Scaldra managed to capture Albrecht close to New Year's Eve, which is when the Drifter arrived in search for Albrecht and got themselves captured by the Hex. While the Hex and the Drifter made an uneasy alliance to stop the city's nuclear reactor from melting down caused by the Millenium Bug connected to the Indifference, who followed Albrecht into the past, Viktor was busy torturing Albrecht for information. His violent beating session was interrupted by Major Rusalka, who dismissed Viktor from the room to talk to Albrecht in private, leaving him unaware of her revealing herself to be the Indifference's puppet.

The Hex tried to raid a convoy transporting Albrecht to another location, but Rusalka intercepted them and crashed her motorcycle into the armored van. When the Drifter refuses to kill her, the Indifference took her place and teleported itself away alongside Albrecht and the Drifter. Desperate to stop the reactor from going nuclear, the Hex concocted a loose plan to have on of their members, Eleanor, use her psychic powers to take control of the Techrot and break through the Scaldra's defenses around the power plant.

WarframeViktorMessage

Viktor in transmission messages.

Viktor, completely unaware of the impending destruction of the city, sends his troops to intercept them at the zoological gardens where the Techrot had a major hive and laughed at the idea of Y2K being real when Arthur tried to make him see reason. Eventually figuring the garden team to be a distraction, Viktor recalled his forces from the gardens and sent them against the main team waiting at the entrance of the power plant. Despite the Scaldra's best efforts, the Hex managed to enter the power plant but failed to stop the Indifference from enacting its plan.

Aftermath[]

Just before everything became engulfed in nuclear fire, the Drifter returned and used the powers they gained from Dominus Thrax to reset the year back to January, giving the Hex a second chance at stopping the Indifference. While they trained and improved their lacking team cohesion, Viktor stepped up as the leader of the Scaldra following the disappearance of Major Rusalka thanks to the Indifference.

Trivia[]

  • Viktor's last name, Vodyanoy, is a male water spirit in Slavic Mythology, a country that Höllvania draws heavy inspiration from.
