The Life Virus (known as the Dream Virus in Japan) is a large virus specifically designed by Lord Wily to destroy net society, and reason for many WWW missions. It is the final boss of Mega Man Battle Network and Mega Man Network Transmission.

Mega Man Battle Network[]

Throughout the story of this game, Lord Wily orders his underlings to collect four superprograms so that he can use them to create the Life Virus, a monster that would end the cyberworld as humanity in that game knew it. It only makes an appearance at the very end of the story, after it was fully constructed and Wily proclaims that he will unleash it upon the world. However, a small morcel of its power was shown before this moment, being used on MagicMan.EXE to delete MegaMan.EXE in a single shot. However, MegaMan is brought back by Lan from this blow, and the two proceed to take the Life Virus down. They do so, saving the world and stopping Wily dead in his tracks. It should also be noted that, in this game, Bass.EXE copied the Life Aura from the Life Virus to use for himself at will, and the game implies that this Life Aura is one reason why all four superprograms were needed.

Mega Man Network Transmission[]

The original Life Virus is seen in the intro cutscene of this game. However, throughout the game, it is mentioned that a character known as the Professor managed to revive it. Thankfully, Lan and MegaMan defeat this newly revived Life Virus R as it is now called. The Professor threatens to revive it again and again as many times as he needs to, though he is arrested before he can do that. Neither he nor the Life Virus make a return after this.
