“ | Many years ago, on these very shores of Lake Michigan, a cargo ship carrying a priceless treasure was headed for port: the Dauntless. But that night, we had ourselves one for the record books: a perfect storm. That ship there, hey, had one hope if it was going to make land: the lighthouse. But the lighthouse keeper was a sly and shifty sort. That night, in the middle of the terrible storm, he turned out the light. He figured if he could sink the Dauntless, he'd be the only one to know where to dive for its treasure. But Mother Nature didn't agree with his plan. He may have sunk the Dauntless, but he never made it out of that lighthouse to claim his treasure. | „ |

The Lighthouse Keeper is the overarching antagonist of the What's New, Scooby-Doo? episode "Fright House of a Lighthouse".
He is an unnamed lighthouse keeper who, years before the events of the show, was in charge of the lighthouse of Lake Michigan. However, one stormy night, the Lighthouse Keeper decided to turn off the light to sink the Dauntless, a ship carrying a valuable treasure, so he could claim it for himself, though he died before he could leave to search for it. Years later, his ghost apparently haunts the lighthouse, leading the Mystery Inc. to investigate.
He was voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.
History[]
Years before the events of the show, the Lighthouse Keeper served as the keeper of the lighthouse from the community of Lake Michigan, using the light to guide boats at the shore. However, one stormy night, the Lighthouse Keeper saw the Dauntless, a cargo ship carrying a priceless treasure, sailing over the lake. Wishing to claim its valuable cargo, the Lighthouse Keeper turned off the lighthouse's light on purpose, leading the Dauntless to sail against some rocks, crashing and most likely killing everyone aboard. However, before the Lighthouse Keeper could leave his post to gather the treasure, a natural act of karma led a tree branch carried on by the storm to break into the lighthouse, knocking the Lighthouse Keeper off the last floor to his death.
In the Season 3 episode "Fright House of a Lighthouse", Mystery Inc. visits Michigan to stay at the house of Fred Jones' uncle Karl, who tells them the story of the Lighthouse Keeper after Shaggy Rogers and Scooby-Doo grow alarmed at the lighthouse's unusual activity and its apparent phantom. This leads the gang to investigate and uncover the mystery surrounding the haunted lighthouse and the Dauntless seemingly coming back as a ghost ship, exposing that Crusty McPete and Verona Dempsey were using the Lighthouse Keeper's legend to look for the treasure and prevent merchant ships from arriving to the town respectively.
Trivia[]
- It's exactly unknown how Michigan's community knew that the Lighthouse Keeper turned off the lighthouse's lights on purpose given how no one was apparently present at the lighthouse save for the Lighthouse Keeper when the Dauntless crashed.
