~ The twins, introducing themselves. |
Lily and Todney are the two main antagonists in the third episode Family, from the Don't Hug Me I'm Scared TV series. Their role was supposed to be to teach the main trio about family values, but they end up distancing themselves from that, inviting them into their home and introducing them to their creepy, dark family. In the end they and the rest of their family are killed and apparently devoured by Yellow Guy's father, Roy.
Biography[]
Background[]
Before the episode, The Twins had a mother who, under unknown circumstances, left the both of them. This had driven them to find a new mother.
Meeting the Gang[]
The Twins first appear at the start of the episode. They break into Yellow Guy, Red Guy, and The Duck's house and kill the apple who was going to teach them about food. They state that the reason that they cannot open their bag of food is because it is a family pack and the group doesn't have a family. They then sing a song about how important family is but are cut off by the group.
The song convinces the Red Guy that the group of three can hardly be classified as a "family" due to the three of them not knowing each other that well, and due to the fact that they don't share any real bonds. The Duck and the Red Guy then argue with each other about what their roles in the group would be, and this gets the Twins to invite them to visit their house and meet their family.
Getting Rid of Red Guy and Duck[]
The Twins are then seen sitting with the Yellow Guy, the Red Guy, and the Duck, where they watch a home movie of them having a picnic with each other.
The Twins then invite the guys for "family game time." They all sit around for confusing board game. During the game, Yellow Guy is given permission to use mother's piece. After Duck touches the piece, the Twins force him out of the house, since it can only be touched by their new "mother". Duck is then sent back home.
Afterwards, they bring the three of them to the family tree, a literal tree with all of the photos of every other relative in the family, ancestors and all. The Red Guy is intrigued by the idea, and wants to find his own family. The tree promises this to him in exchange for his DNA, which he transfers by giving up some of his blood, which causes him to eventually be brought back home as well.
New Mother[]
With the Red Guy and the Duck gone, The Twins and their family are able to have a new mother. They tie Yellow Guy to a chair and dress him up to be their mother.
They force him to order chicken for them and the food ascends from the sky. The family begins to eat before Roy shows up and brutally kills them all.
Personality[]
Lily and Todney at first proved to be friendly and sympathetic towards the main trio at first, explaining to them how good and important a family is and singing them a song about the meaning of family, although they were also already showing weird and disturbing traits. at this point, such as when Lily hurts a live apple by biting into it and then throwing it against a wall. Sometimes the two are seen taking a deep breath, similar to Roy. His behavior gets more and more frightening and unusual as the episode progresses.
It is later revealed that their gentle behavior at first may have been used as part of a trap to lure the trio to their home to ultimately keep only Yellow Guy and begin torturing him and making him buy chickens for dinner for the their family, which goes to show that they, like most of the other teachers, are two manipulators who basically tricked Yellow Guy, Red Guy, and Duck, although in this case, to get something for themselves, unlike Roy's teachers in first grade.
Appearance[]
Lily and Todney are human twins with blond hair, blue eyes, and rosy cheeks. Both wear brown sweaters with yellow edges and the first letters of their names in red. Todney wears shorts and Lilly wears a skirt, both being blue jeans. Lily has her hair tied in two braids with blue ribbons and Todney has medium length hair with bangs. In their house they are seen wearing white shirts with black stripes, still keeping their respective initials, and suspenders. During dinner, the two acquire open and terrifying mouths.

Trivia[]
- Todney is likely based on the character Toby who would appear in the series' scrapped pilot episode, Wakey Wakey; both are doll-like puppet children with slightly long blond hair and have their names beginning with a T.
- Before the episodes were released, there was a lot of speculation that the two were actually the same person, mainly by the T on Todney's sweater.
- It's also possible that Toby was reused for Todney's puppet, as well as Yellow Guy's shy friend from "Friendship", who was also from Wakey Wakey.
- Unlike most of the other characters, who are shown to be typical puppets made only of sewn fabric, both twins more closely resemble classic wooden puppets, with a completely different facial shape from the others, having eyes with visible irises and mouths digitally animated and tracked onto their faces, resulting in a more complex lip sync. They also feature a common skin color instead of the yellow used for the other humans in the series, such as Yellow Guy and Roy.
- They are the only human teachers in the franchise.
- It's possible that they have difficulty spelling, as seen in their Family song. Then again, they were able to read family just fine on the bag, so how they weren’t able to spell it is unknown.
- The scene where them and their family hold Yellow Guy hostage at the table is very reminiscent of the infamous dinner scene from Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
