Stop hand

It was terrifying. One moment you're at home, answering the door, and the next, you're stuck in some kind of suit. ... The only thing you can do is look through two little holes. It was some kind of mask, and whenever the sun shined near, I could see the inside of it. It was a familiar face. Every few nights straws would be put through the holes and someone would feed me some weird soup. ... They don't care if I talk about it or not. No one would take me seriously. Lincolnlooking is just... too absurd.
~ Maya Arnoldson on being a former Lincolnlooker.
There's always that someone that we dislike more than anyone else. They're not usually famous or important, but they've done something that's affected us personally. Often you're the, y'know, the only person who remembers this act. It might not have even been that bad, but the memory hurts. Everyone experiences this, and the President is no exception. Except he can do something about it. Every president can choose one person to be a Lincolnlooker. ... and they stay a Lincolnlooker for as long as the President sits in office. Nobody can question his decision, and there's no trial. You might be surprised, but it's nothing new. It's been a tradition. Lincolnlookers have been around for a very long time.
~ Former Senior Advisor Leonard W. Morlin explaining the process of choosing a Lincolnlooker.

The Lincolnlookers are minor antagonists in Season 1 of the alternate history analog horror series THE MONUMENT MYTHOS, the first installment in the franchise of the same name.

Once someone who has revealed the inner working of the monuments has shown themselves, the POTUS will damn them to a sickening transformation inside the Memorial of Lincoln, creating a monster in the process.

Appearance[]

We only see a single appendage of the creature(s) arise from Lincoln, and it is a red, crooked, fleshy limb, which it has shown to use to scratch the inside of the Memorial when it wants to get out. Its form is likely in some way humane, as a blind girl recognizes the form through listening to sound waves in the marble, and she can recognize it's some mangled form of something she can feel compassion for, and starts crying. Although, this could just be telepathy in play.

Biography[]

The Past of Lincolnlooking[]

It is unknown when Licolnlooking began to occur, but assuming when the U.S. government completed building the Washington Monument around a Special Tree, understanding at least parts of the nature of of the lifeform, we can assume Lincolnlooking began immediately after Lincoln was completed by Henry Bacon, or a few years thereafter. We can assume, at the very least, that over ninety years of Lincolnlooking have occurred as of 2021, with Leonard W. Morlin describing it as "a very long time", as seen above.

Mistakened Lincolnlooker[]

We first get to see an interview done by Maya Arnoldson, long before Lincolnlooking became a widely known phenomenon. She described being entrapped within a "mask" with a familiar face on it, being in a cold, dark environment, being fed soup every day, until she was released two weeks later due to being mistaken as the wrong Lincolnlooker somehow. President Reagan formally apologized to her and gave reparations, and she says this is due to the absurdity of Lincolnlooking, and how no one would believe her, as seen above.

The First Lincolnlooker Sighting[]

In the one documentation of a Lincolnlooker we get to see, presumably being the first documentation of any Lincolnlooker, is done journalist posing as a visitor, named Howard Melrose. He takes a video of the Lincoln Memorial opening up from the base of the neck, as the head slowly slides off, before a large flesh like limb reaches out of the memorial. He later goes on to call a woman named Eunice, and tells her everything about the situation before he recorded it. He first hears a faint scratching sound, and he gets closer to it, figuring out it's coming from inside Lincoln. He asks a guard about what it is, and they respond by saying they'll take care of it later. The scratching gets louder and louder, and he again asks the guard what usually gets stuck in there, and they respond with "Wild animals." As the scratching got louder and louder, and more of the visitors got visibly scared, a blind girl with a cane would put her head against the marble, and began to hit the statue, as her parents tried pulling away. She would continue to hit the marble, despite orders from the guards to descend the steps. He felt compelled to help the blind girl, and despite the guards attempt to pin them both down. They eventually ran off, though, due to the ear-piercing sound the scratching was making. When he and the girl hit the statue a few more times, a giant crack began quickly rising up the statue, before a blast of air came out due to this crack, knocking them both down. The head of the memorial turned toward them, and he carried the blind girl down the steps due to fears of the head falling off, before the head slowly rotated back in place, before being pushed out of the way by something inside of the monument. He then goes on to record the documentation.

Aftermath[]

Public knowledge of Lincolnlooking quickly spread, and in an interview with a former Senior Advisor named Leonard W. Morlin, he would describe the process of finding a Lincolnlooker, as seen above. What he would not mention is their transformation over the four/eight years within Lincoln, gazing upon the Washington Monument.

This spread of this knowledge caused controversy about the storage of Lincolnlookers, and led to theories that current/former Lincolnlookers would be imprisoned in facilities behind the portraits of the presidents. The White House would go on to publically remove and reinstall the paintings to disprove those claims.

Revelation[]

Prior to his suicide by self-immolation, Leonard W. Morlin revealed in a tape that he had been coerced by the ADA to read their scripts in order to give their claims veracity and spread misinformation among reliable sources in various instances. One of these instances was the documentary exposing the Lincolnlookers, meaning that their existence is a hoax.

Trivia[]

  • It is still unknown where Lincolnlookers are kept, but few assume it may be in the Grand Canyon, where most major government dissenters are kept, protected by the Giza Guardians and Freedom.
