Lindy Pepper-Bean is the villainous main protagonist of the Doctor Who episode Dot and Bubble.
She was portrayed by Callie Cooke.
Biography[]
Lindy was born on her home planet, called Homeworld. She and several other teenagers were sent to a city called Finetime on another planet to work. They only work two hours a day, which constituted merely going into an office and sitting behind a desk, yet continue to use social media instead of doing anything productive.
One day, a species called Mantraps infested the planet and started eating all the residents, seemingly at random. When at work, Lindy got a call from a man called the Doctor and a girl named Ruby Sunday who tried to warn her about what was happening. Lindy initially refused to listen to their warnings, but upon witnessing a coworker being consumed by a Mantrap, she then proceeded to escape with the help of the Doctor and Ruby. Her struggle was made worse by an inability to simply walk without direction from the Dot, yet she gradually established autonomy in walking.
On the way to escaping the city, she met a man called Ricky September - the most popular streamer - who joined and helped her. The pair proceeded to escape through the sewers, when the Doctor realised that the Mantraps were killing people via alphabetical order. That meant that they weren't merely wild animals feeding, rather were being ordered by someone or something.
The Doctor deduced that the Dots had achieved sentience and grew to despise their narcissistic and insipid masters, thus were responsible for creating the Mantraps to wipe them out. Their role exposed, Lindy's Dot then proceeded to attack Lindy itself, while Ricky was putting the code into the final door. Ricky and Lindy then swapped roles as he deflected the Dot to protect her; however, Lindy turned on him by revealing his real name that was alphabetically earlier than her name. Therefore, the Dot recalculated to kill him instead, which allowed more time for Lindy to escape.
When she reached safety, she lied about Ricky's fate, by claiming he had other people to save. The Doctor offered to take her and the remaining residents to a safe place in the TARDIS, to which they rejected because of his skin colour. The Doctor pleaded with them to let him to save them, even proclaiming he won't try to change their minds about him, but they remained obstinate in their hateful opinions. The residents proceeded to leave delusionally as "pioneers" and presumably died shortly afterwards due to lacking any survival skills from years of utter dependence on the Dots; their bigotry drove them to not heed the Doctor's warnings.
Trivia[]
- Lindy is initially set up in a similar way to other protagonists of Doctor-lite episodes, such as Elton Pope and Sally Sparrow, with no indication of her true nature, with it slowly becoming apparent over the course of the episode.
- While her vanity was an innocuous enough factor, it became clear that she actually suffered from narcissistic personality disorder.
- She showed favouritism to her most popular peers, deeming them the most important, as well as siphoning attention for herself.
- She displayed zero concern when some people suddenly weren't online, and only showed concern when the threat would impact her.
- When meeting Ricky she expressed it was the "best day ever" even though multiple people - including supposed friends - had died, which he pointed out, yet she only showed the mildest acknowledgement of the tragedies.
- Despite her admiration for Ricky, she betrayed him to the Dot; it was plausible for both of them to escape, but she sacrificed him due to her own overinflated sense of importance.
- Because of her actions of letting Ricky be killed due to revealing his first name and her remarking of the Doctor's skin color and not being one of them, fans of the franchise has grown to despise her and wished she was killed in the episode.
- Despite her survival, it seemed heavily implied that her death would shortly come from her inability to fulfill her needed food, shelter, and health without advanced technology.
- Her mother, Penny, was later revealed to be a creation of Sutekh.
