Linlei is a supporting antagonist-turned-supporting protagonist of the anime movie Doraemon: The Record of Nobita's Parallel Visit to the West. He is the Bull Demon King and Queen Iron Fan's son who is tasked to spy on the monk Xuanzang to lure him, and was loosely based on the Red Boy from the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West.
He was voiced by Yūko Mizutani.
Appearance[]
Linlei is a young boy with blue eyes and ginger hair around the main kids' age. He wears a black coif, green robes with yellow lines, and white pants.
Personality[]
Contrary to the Red Boy, Linlei is never truly evil at all. Rather, he merely happens to be stuck with his duty as a spy and is extremely torn between his love for his parents and his growing attachment to Xuanzang. Even after knowing his parents' true nature, Linlei still feels grief over their death, yelling his mom's name when she falls into the lava. Despite this, he still willingly rescues the protagonists because he knows it's the right thing. Afterwards, he becomes Xuanzang's actual companion, showing that he has truly redeemed himself.
History[]
Linlei at first pretended to be Xuanzang's companion and successfully lured him to his parents, allowing them and the other demons to eat Xuanzang. This led to the timeline being altered, as all the humans in the present day were demons evolved. As a result, Doraemon, Nobita, Shizuka, Suneo, and Jaian traveled back in time to undo the demons' victory.
Once again, Linlei successfully lured them into his parents' cave, where Xuanzang was about to be eaten. The five were chained with him so the demons could eat them altogether. Seeing them are about to be eaten by his parents, Linlei showed regrets about it, and Xuanzang revealed that he knew Linlei is on the side of the demons all along, but nevertheless still forgive him. Linlei then secretly released the group. When the Bull King was killed by Nobita (who he believes to be Sun Wukong), the magics that the demons caused were disposed, caused the Queen Iron Fan to fall into the lava, much to Linlei's grief. Later on, in honor of his parents and the other demons, Linlei redeemed himself and joined Xuanzang as the latter's actual companion and traveled to India.
