Biography[]
Lionel Barker first met Morticia when they were children. She was playing in the garden with a couple of friends and invited him as he strolled by, to which he said he would only join her if the other two left. During his adulthood, Lionel has become a scam artist who works with his partner Charlie.
Lionel visits the Addamses as a houseguest under the guise of reuniting with Morticia, but he actually plans to trick them into buying a phony oil stock. As he and Morticia reminisce about their friendship over a cup of tea, Gomez grows jealous of Lionel. He leaves them and asks Uncle Fester about dealing with him. Gomez also hears Lionel reciting a romantic poem that he wrote about Morticia as a child, which leads him to think they are in love with each other. Gomez and Fester attempt to drive Lionel out of the house by rearranging his room with a soft mattress and putting a cage with a singing canary nearby, but this only makes Lionel more comfortable. After breakfast, Lionel calls Charlie to tell him that he needs time to charm Gomez.
Gomez hires a maid named Mildred to distract Lionel from Morticia. Mildred follows Lionel everywhere in the house and irritates him with her wooing. Later in the day, Lionel finds Gomez checking his stocks and offers to sell him a stock from the South Tasmanian Oil Corporation, claiming that the president of the business is a friend of his. Gomez refuses and leaves, and Mildred enters the room. Lionel becomes fascinated with her after learning she invests money in the stock market and starts flirting with Mildred. The two marry at City Hall and stop by the Addams family's house to announce that they are going on their honeymoon. Gomez later mentions that Mildred's stocks have dramatically declined, implying that Lionel may have swindled her.
