Lisa Baumer is a brief protagonist and hidden antagonist in the giallo film The Case of the Scorpion's Tail. Lisa is the heir to her husband Kurt's fortune after he dies in a plane disaster, making her a target to everyone who knows her and her dead husband, which results in her own drastic action.

She's portrayed by Ida Galli, who also portrayed Maria Marchi in The Bloodstained Butterfly and Martha Veronesi in Arabella Black Angel.

Biography[]

Lisa had a questionable marriage with Kurt, due to his affair with Lara Florakis, usually on his business trips, and her affair with plane steward George Barnet. When Kurt was killed in an explosion on his last plane flight, alone with everyone else on board, she received the call one night she had a liaison with Barnet. His insurance agency revealed she benefited in his million-dollar net worth, and that she was to collect the money in Athens. After Lisa called Barnet from a phone booth to confirm their separate trips before meeting in Greece, her ex, Phillipe, stalked her and demanded a payoff, as he'd send the police letters to him about her unhappy marriage to put suspicion on her for Kurt's murder. She gave him a few hundred, but he wanted more to leave the country. Bitterly agreeing to drop the rest off at his place, Lisa went there to find Phillipe dying from a stab wound by a figure previously watching her. She fled the house and took a one-way flight to Athens, the agency sending investigator Peter Lynch to track her movements.

Lynch ingratiated himself to Lisa at the hotel, lighting her cigarette and admitting his assignment to her case. Lisa was then lured to an abandoned theater, where Florakis was present with her muscle, Abad Sharif. Florakis believed Lisa killed Kurt she the mistress wouldn't get the money, demanding Lisa give it up or Sharif would be unleashed on her. Lisa ran, with the two close behind in hot pursuit, Lynch narrowly saving Lisa's life by getting her out. Lisa collected the money and returned to her hotel, Lynch presumably waiting for her at the front door. Phillipe's killer broke into Lisa's room and, armed with a switchblade, broke through the doorway and pushed himself in. The killer pinned Lisa to her bed, smothered her screams with a hand over her mouth, and slashed her throat and abdomen before making off with the entire satchel of cash. Lisa was found by Lynch and the hotel staff, with the local police being involved and Interpol called in because of their jurisdiction with the plane crash.

it was revealed Lynch was the killer, with Barnet as an accomplice. Wanting money for himself after hating chasing after everyone else's riches, he concocted a convoluted scheme where Barnet seduced Lisa and planted the bomb on the plane to kill Kurt. Once the insurance payout was arranged, Barnet would get Lisa to Greece, where Lynch killed her once she had the money. He killed Florakis and Sharif as competition and diversions, then Barnet since he was a loose end, shortly after Lisa's murder. Lynch was shot dead by police when he was near killing his own love interest who realized the truth from finding the stash.
