Peter Benjamin Parker, better known as The Lizard, is a minor antagonist in Sony Pictures Animation's Spider-Verse film trilogy.

He is an alternate version to his Earth-65 self from Earth-65B, and shares a common backstory by being the only friend of Gwen Stacy, the Spider-Woman of that universe. Parker was later pushed into villainy from the abuse he constantly received from his bullies, especially Ned Leeds, before accidentally killing himself in a rampage at the prom.

He was voiced by Jack Quaid, who also played Marvel in The Hunger Games, Richie Kirsch in Scream (2022) and Josh Beaman in Companion.

Across the Spider-Verse[]

Peter Parker was raised by May and Ben Parker, he was Gwen Stacy's best friend. He and his aunt and uncle frequently visit her house, and the two families were considered to be great friends.

Though initially oblivious to the fact his best friend was a vigilante, he spoke out about how he supported the Spider-Woman even in front of Captain George Stacy who very much believed otherwise.

Peter was frequently picked on at school by popular kid Ned Leeds, with only Gwen to stick up for him. On the night of the prom, inspired by Gwen's strength, he drank a version of the lizard serum, transforming him into a huge monitor lizard-like reptile. Upon crashing the prom, he quickly attacked Ned Leeds, however, Spider-Woman soon rescued the kids.

Fighting off the Lizard, eventually, the two of them exchanged blows until the Lizard was crushed by collapsing debris. By this point, the Lizard Serum had worn off, with the dying Peter telling Gwen that he wanted to be like her and comforting her in his last minutes of life, revealing to her that he knew her secret identity as Spider-Woman.

Legacy[]

Peter Parker was remembered as a good kid by all of New York, who were seemingly unaware of his transformation to the Lizard and/or his motives. His "murder" encouraged a manhunt to find and arrest Spider-Woman, which Captain George Stacy would obsess over for years to come in seek for revenge and closure for himself and his daughter, whose secret identity as Spider-Woman was unknown even to him.

Despite this, Gwen also remembered Peter fondly and partially considers him as reason for still being Spider-Woman and saving people's lives. Unbeknownst to Gwen, this was because Peter's death was an equivalent to losing an Uncle Ben; a "Canon Event".

Peter's death was brought up by Gwen after she and several other Spider-People are teleported to Earth-1610B. She tells the Miles Morales of that dimension about his death after he had lost his Uncle Aaron Davis. She also remembered his death shortly before being recruited by the Spider-Society.

Personality[]

Peter was seen as a shy and cowardly nice person, he was inspired by Spider-Woman, he would create a super-serum to gain powers and be special like his idol who he would find out was his best friend, the formula would work but at the cost of transforming him into a giant lizard, stretching his sanity to a breaking point and awakening in him a desire for violence. While it is not explicitly confirmed, it is highly likely that Peter had a crush on Gwen.

Lizard's acts would put him into conflict with his idol, Spider-Woman ending up accidentally killing the latter, managing to discover that the super heroine was none other than his best friend, Gwen Stacy, herself; he may have deduced her identity by noticing the pattern of her disappearances that began when she was granted her Spider-Woman powers.

In Into the Spider-Verse, Peter's model reused the "standard" Peter Parker model, making him look older than he should have. This was most likely made to avoid having to make an entirely new model that would, realistically, show up for no less than a second. This was later corrected in Across the Spider-Verse.
At the time of his death it appears like the colors of his clothes are the same as the iconic Spider-Man suit representing his desire to be like Gwen.
He is a reversal of how Peter and Gwen end up, as instead of Gwen dying despite Peter's efforts, Peter died despite Gwen's efforts.
