Biography[]
Lo and Li lived in the Fire Nation and inherited their parents' house after their parents died. They were appointed as Princess Azula's firebending mentors when she was a child.
Lo and Li accompanied Azula on her journey to the Earth Kingdom when she set out to retrieve her brother Zuko after his failure to capture Aang. The twins also advised Azula to leave her royal palace and personally pursue her fugitive brother and uncle, presenting the move as an element of surprise.
Later, after the Earth Kingdom capital fell to the Fire Nation military through Azula's plan and the support of the newly returned Zuko, the sisters publicly declared the Fire Nation's victory over the newly conquered territories.
After Fire Lord Ozai appointed himself Phoenix King, Lo and Li visited Azula and were taken aback to learn that she had dismissed all of her servants out of fear that they might betray her. When the twins made an offhand remark that offended her, Azula impulsively ordered them to fight in an Agni Kai, only for the sisters to remind her that they were nonbenders. Azula then angrily "fired" Li while pointing at Lo, leaving both women confused about who had actually been dismissed.
After Ozai was defeated by Aang and the Fire Nation surrendered, ending the Hundred Year War and leading to Zuko's coronation as Fire Lord, Lo and Li's subsequent fate was left unspecified. The series does not clarify whether they were banished, quietly retained at court, or otherwise pardoned; it only establishes that they served as advisers who followed the orders of the Fire Nation royal family rather than taking direct part in war crimes.
