The Loan Sharks, also known as Sunshine Capital, are supporting characters of Netflix's K-drama Squid Game. They are originaly portrayed as greedy villains who loan people in debt money and beat them up when they can't pay it back. However, when Seong Gi-hun pays his debt and requests for their help in finding the recruiter, they comply, as long as Gi-hun pays them.

Mr. Kim is portrayed by Kim Pub-lae and Choi Woo-seok is portrayed by Jeon Seok-Ho, while the other member's actors are unknown.

Biography[]

Season 1[]

At some point the Loan Sharks would make a deal with Seong Gi-hun to give him money which he would eventually repay. Despite this Gi-hun would refuse to repay the money many times with them urging him more each time to repay it.

Later, Gi-hun was spotted by the Loan Sharks at a racetrack. They pursued him into the bathroom where they made Gi-hun pay them back. Gi-hun wanted to give him his money, but a pickpocket had taken it. The Leader struck him, causing Gi-hun to bleed from the nose. He threatened it with the emptiness of his blood after tasting it and declaring it to be sweet. He requested a waiver from Gi-hun and professed to have mercy on him. He warned Gi-hun that he would take his kidney if he did not pay him back the following month. After Gi-hun informed him that he was out of ink, he signed once more with blood and the Sharks left.

The Loan Sharks didn't appear again afterwards. However, Gi-hun wins the deadly Squid Game game, which makes him a millionaire. One year later, after coming out of depression, Gi-hun paid off all of his debts, including the money he owed to the Loan Sharks.

Season 2[]

During Gi-hun's hunt against the organizers of the game, the same Loan Shark leader and his right-hand man were hired by Gi-hun to track down the Salesman with the promise of 1 billion Won reward. The leader was skeptical on how Gi-hun managed to earn the large amount of money in the first place, but he brushes it off and maintain his focus on finding the Salesman.

They eventually found and tracked down the Salesman and update Gi-hun of the location. Whilst the Salesman continues his days, the two men started to lose patience and immediately attacks him. However, the Salesman managed to subdue both Loan Sharks and kidnaps them before Gi-hun arrives, before taking them to an unknown place and forcing them to play Russian Roulette in the form of Rock Paper Scissors Minus One. In the ensuing game, the Loan Shark leader sacrifices himself and was killed by the Salesman after losing the game, leaving his right-hand man as the survivor. The right hand man would later join the mercenary force headed by Hwang Jun-ho to avenge his boss.
