~ Lobo
Lobo, also referred to as The Main Man, is a major character in the DC Universe. He is an immensely ominous, powerful, psychopathic, and sadistic bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia, famously being the last of his kind after having exterminated the rest of the Czarnians himself.
Lobo is well-known for his excessive and ultra-violent methods of dealing with his enemies, having been created as a parody of dark, violent antiheroes found in fiction. He has clashed against and allied himself with numerous superheroes across the DC Universe, most notably Superman, and serves as the archenemy of Vril Dox II, the Omegas, the Khunds, Goldstar, and his own daughter, Crush.
Lobo is the last survivor of the Czarnian race, but only because he killed the whole lot of them. He was born on the planet Czarnia, once renowned as a tranquil paradise. Lobo was trouble as soon as he was born, biting off the midwife's fingers, chasing the doctors with scalpels, and frightening the delivery nurse to death.
As a child, he killed every caretaker he had. Finally, he committed global genocide, creating a horde of lethal insects that slaughtered every last Czarnian. Lobo then became a mercenary, leaving a trail of blood and corpses in his wake. Bizarrely, he also adopted a school of space dolphins as pets.
Modern Age[]
At length, after helping the Omega Men vanquish the Spider Guild and the Citadel Empire, Lobo found Earth, and began challenging its greatest heroes; Superman, and the Justice League of America, to vicious battles to find the "Main Man". Lobo also worked with the interstellar police force L.E.G.I.O.N. for a time, along with their offshoot, R.E.B.E.L.S.. During that time Brainiac 5 stripped Lobo of his amazing genetic ability to replicate himself into an army of exact clones.
Lobo believed he was the only remaining Czarnian, but in Simon Bisley and Keith Giffen's miniseries entitled Lobo: The Last Czarnian, he discovers that this was not quite the case. One Czarnian was off-world when he unleashed his plague and, by coincidence, it happened to be his fourth grade teacher, Miss Tribb.
Lobo happens to be under contract to deliver Miss Tribb to his employer Vril Dox, a very sensitive situation. Lobo takes his promises very seriously; he keeps his reputation by keeping his word. He keeps her alive, though at one point he removes her legs to keep her from wandering off. When he fulfills his contract by bringing her to Vril Dox, he then immediately kills her by snapping her neck.
In the Lobo's Back storyline, Lobo was killed by two of his rivals, but after wreaking havoc in Heaven and Hell he comes back from the dead to enact his revenge.
In Lobo Paramilitary Christmas Special #1, the Easter Bunny hired Lobo to kill Santa Claus (aka Kris "Crusher" Kringle) himself.
His home planet Czarnia later became the site of an assassination attempt on Lobo, which is detailed in the miniseries "Lobo: Infanticide". Hundreds of his children, results of his womanizing, form a battalion to ambush him. Lobo, thinking he is taking part in war games, patrols through various Czarnian canyons, even encountering his old house, which is still somewhat standing.
Most of his children are slain in a battle with the "Brutish" empire, a race of aliens who had decided to take the empty planet for their own. Lobo kills the invading force, then spends much time battling the last of his kids. These fights take place in a highly arid region, with little plant life. Eventually, he is the sole survivor.
Sometime later, Lobo was transformed into a younger version of himself by the magic of Klarion, the Witch Boy. Li'l Lobo was just as murderous as his adult self, and reclaimed his cloning ability. The child-sized Lobo then joined Young Justice for a while. He was incinerated by Darkseid on a mission to Apokolips
during the Imperiex War.
A Lobo clone, created from a drop of blood, returned to Earth with Young Justice. He called himself "Slobo," felt unworthy of the Khundian title "Lobo," and was condemned to a stony death in the 853rd century by Darkseid while trying to save his teammate
"Secret' from the New God's clutches. Slobo remained mentally alert even as a stone figure. And he had decided to die helping a teammate he had grown fond of; as the cloning process was slowly disintegrating him and had already rendered him blind. One of Lobo's many clones survived, however, to spread his brand of lethal rage across the galaxy PJ.
Among all super-heroes,Lobo has the "friendliest" relationship with the Green Lantern Guy Gardner, who he sees as a fellow "wild man". He assisted Gardner in gaining control of Sinestro's yellow Power Ring when Guy was temporarily powerless.
New 52[]
In the Post-Flashpoint timeline, an imposter claimed the Lobo name and title. This version accepted perhaps the most dangerous assignment of his entire career:
to kill Sinestro, leader of the Yellow Lantern Corps. However, Lobo was eventually imprisoned and miniaturized, locked away by Larfleeze as part of his hidden hoard on the planet Okaara.
DC Rebirth[]
Making a brutal living all across the universe, Lobo eventually found his way to Earth, where he encountered plenty of superheroes and supervillains to clash with. It was not long before he was recruited into Amanda Waller's first prototype Suicide Squad task force. However, the team were not the success Waller had anticipated. Lobo ended up locked in the most secretive high-security prison in the world, the Catacombs.
After being freed from captivity by Maxwell Lord, Lobo fell under Lord's powerful mind-controlling powers. He was eventually released when Batman set off a bomb inside his head, completely blowing it up. In time, Lobo healed, and strangely decided that he owned Batman a favor for helping him regain his own mind.
The Dark Knight cashed in that favor very quickly, playing on Lobo's particular sense of honor and recruiting him into the Justice League of America. He stayed with the team longer than he had to, but the free-spirited Lobo eventually took off toward space, looking for new and deserving "bastiches" to "frag".
Lobo recruited Black Canary's help when he tracked down the only other lliving Czarnian, the son of his former grade school teacher, Mrs. Tribb. Gusano Tribb had been killing space dolphins just to mess with Lobo, so the Main Man fed him to the very dolphins Tribb was trying to eliminate.
Dawn of DC[]
It was later revealed that an entire bottled city of Czarnians called Paz City had been taken centuries ago by Brainiac after making a deal with Miss Tribb, who had been a military officer looking to rid the planet of its most troublesome populations, a gang of pirates known as "the Bad Blood", all of whom were led by General Chacal, Lobo's ancestor and idol.
Following "House Of Brainiac", General Chacal and the rest of the Bad Blood ended up being eliminated by the Brainiac Queen, although the bottled city of Paz and its Czarnian inhabitants remain intact.
Powers and Abilities[]
Powers[]
“
Sure, you got your Super Strength and all...but I'm a street fighter while you fight like a butler, I duke it out like a Mad Dog!!!
„
~ Lobo to Superman
Czarnian Physiology
Superhuman Strength: Lobo has shown strength sufficient enough to knock out Superman with his blows without too much apparent effort, but at times is barely able to pick up cars. At most times, Lobo is shown to be on par with Superman in terms of strength. He has even shown enough strength to destroy entire planets. More often than not, Lobo is able to effortlessly lift far in excess of 100 tons. His strength varies greatly from writer to writer.
Superhuman Stamina: Lobo possesses inexhaustible stamina and in most interpretations cannot tire.
Immortality: Lobo is functionally immortal and cannot die no matter what happens. He is immune to the effects of aging and disease and has been banned from entering either Heaven or Hell.
Invulnerability: Lobo has at times shrugged off blows from the likes of Superman with no damage, taken planet-destroying attacks without so much as a scratch but at other occurrences has had his skin penetrated by bullets and had only some resistance against most magic spells and attacks.
Superhuman Speed: Lobo possesses the ability to sharpen his awareness and increase his temporal flow, appearing to move faster than humanly possible. He can move at incredible speeds.
Self-Sustenance: Lobo does not need any food, water, air, or sleep and he can survive in the vacuum of space without any harm.
Regeneration: If Lobo does somehow sustain an injury, his accelerated healing enables him to regenerate damaged or destroyed tissue instantly, with little apparent pain. He will apparently heal from any injury. For instance, Lobo can regenerate out of a pool of his own blood, apparently recycling the cells instantly. The speed of regeneration has also varied throughout his appearances.
Bio-Fission: If Lobo spills even a drop of blood, that drop can become a completely new Lobo. This ability was later removed by Vril Dox but since then it appears to have been restored.
Thermal Immunity: According to Lobo's own words, he "ride through the cold of space and the heat of blazing suns". Once he withstood a flaming attack which killed dozens of Thunderers of Qward around him.
Non-Physical Interaction: Lobo can grab and harm incorporeal beings.
Possession and Limited Biokinesis: Lobo is able to become a spirit and possess other beings, whose form will be transformed into Lobo's original appearance.
Abilities[]
Genius Level Intellect: As unbelievable as it may seem, despite his violent and loutish nature, Lobo is an absolute genius-level intellect when it comes to matters of destruction and violence. He can create complex virulent agents and the necessary antidotes to them such as the one he let loose on Czarnia, resulting in the deaths of the entire population in the span of one week.
Mechanical Aptitude: He was also able to scavenge parts from a destroyed time hopper and attach them to his own bike, producing a working time machine.
Tracking: A master tracker, Lobo's tracking ability allows him to trace any prey across even the Universe.
Multilingualism: By his own account, Lobo is fluent in over speak 17,897 different languages from across the galaxy.
Morse Code: Lobo can communicate in Morse Code.
Expert Combatant: Lobo is a master hand-to-hand combatant, being able to hold his own and beat such accomplished fighters as Superman., Batman, Aquaman and Etrigan
Indomitable Will: According to Lobo's own words, a power ring is powered by willpower, and no one has more willpower than himself. He once used his own willpower in conjunction with his fabulous strength to break a force field created by the green lantern, G'nort.
Lobo was a notable supporting antagonist in DC Animated Universe. He was voiced by Brad Garrett.
Following his appearance on Superman: The Animated Series, a children's television show based on the character Lobo was in developmenta at Kids WB. However, the series was converted into an adult oriented Flash animated web series due to executive issues, that was released in 2000. Lobo was voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson in this version.
In the web series, Lobo is actually considered the main protagonist as he faces criminals. Compared to his appearance in the DCAU, he is uncensored and very raunchy. The humor has deep similarities to South Park and the Deadpool film.
At Dooley-7, Lobo made a bet with an escaped con named Sunny Jim to see who can f-ck a human waitress named Darlene first. Later, Lobo arrived at Fat Whutzat's music/repair shop and noticed that his bike was taken because Lobo didn't pay his bills.
Justice League Action[]
Lobo appears in the animated series Justice League Action, voiced by John DiMaggio. He first appears in "Follow That Space Cab" where he is hired by Boss Kack to bring him Mr. Mind. This leads Lobo into a conflict with Superman who flees with Mr. Mind with the help of Space Cabbie. When Hawkman arrives, he helps Superman fight Lobo which ends with Lobo accidentally stepping on Mr. Mind.
Upon presenting the squished remains to Boss Kack and demanding that he pay up, Boss Kack's robots point their lasers at him as Boss Kack asks Lobo if he is familiar with what happens if any part of a worm gets squished. In the episode "Rage of the Red Lanterns," Lobo steals some Red Lantern rings which pits Atrocitus and the Red Lantern Corps against the Justice League. This is part of a diversion so that Lobo can unlock the power of the Spider Gauntlet. The Justice League and the Red Lantern Corps work together to defeat Lobo. In the episode "The Fatal Fare," Lobo appears in Roxy Rocket's commercial as one of her clients
Krypton[]
Lobo in the Krypton
Main article: Lobo (Krypton)
Lobo appears in the second season of the Syfy television series Krypton, portrayed by Emmett J. Scanlan. He is a bounty hunter who appears in the first three episodes. Although he is responsible for genocide on Czarnia, his home city was stolen by Brainiac, who also destroyed his home planet and Lobo travels through the space to exact revenge on him. While landing on Brainiac's homeworld Colu, he also encounters and captures Seg and Adam Strange. He asks them for Brainiac and Seg tells him that he killed him earlier, hoping that they will gain freedom from Lobo.
They find his corpse, but unknown to them, Brainiac used own nanites to get into Seg's mind and control him. When Lobo finds out, he attempts to kill them both and Adam, but they escape from him. Seg and Adam go to the birthing chamber where Brainiac was created. Lobo tries to infiltrate it, but Seg manages to remove Brainiac from the body and Seg and Adam leave them both on Colu. In the series finale, Lobo comes in Krypton and begs to Seg in helping him to find and kill Brainiac, while Seg agrees if Lobo helps him to find his kidnapped son, Jor-El.
In June 2019, a spin-off titled Lobo was announced in development with Scanlan reprising his role. However following the cancellation of Krypton, this spinoff did not proceed
Arrowverse[]
Lobo appeared in the Arrowverse tie-in comic EARTH-PRIME. This version originates from the Superman & Lois universe.
Lobo was also indirectly mentioned in the Supergirl episode "Truth, Justice and the American Way" where Alex Danvers ask Martian Manhunter if he thinks a certain intergalactic bounty hunter is on Earth. Specifically, the exchange, taking place after their primary target was abducted by an enigmatic figure, had them speculating that the kidnapper was a bounty hunter who came to Earth, and Martian Manhunter ruled Lobo out since "if he were in town, [the Department of Extranormal Operations would] know."
Films[]
Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths[]
In the direct-to-DVD film Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, an Earth-Three version of Lobo appears as Warwolf, who is depicted as wearing his custom leather vest, but wears no shirt underneath the jacket. He is first seen under a computer display, listing everyone employed under the corresponding Crime Syndicate of America member.
He was employed under Johnny Quick's line of command. Later he has a full cameo as Martian Manhunter and the Flash attack the Earth-Three versions of Green Arrow and Black Canary. He is seen being defeated by Martian Manhunter, and, along with Warwolf, is ultimately bested when the ship he is standing on is sunk and was not to be seen again for the duration of the film.
LEGO films[]
Lobo appears in Lego DC Comics Super Heroes: Aquaman: Rage of Atlantis, voiced by Fred Tatasciore . He is first seen at Dread Lake which is a dry lake bed which Aquaman tries to fight him at until the Justice League arrives. Lobo managed to escape with a glowing blue orb. He did this on behalf of Ocean Master so that he would return Lobo's pet dolphin named Fishy who became a member of the Red Lantern Corps named Fishy.
When the Justice League plans to destroy Atrocitus' S.L.U.R.P. (short for Submerged Limitless Underwater Rapid Pump), Lobo is reunited with Fishy and aids the Justice League. Once the S.L.U.R.P. is destroyed and Earth's oceans are restored, Lobo handcuffs Atrocitus and Dex-Starr as he and Fishy take them to Oa to collect the bounty on them.
He appears in Lego DC: Shazam!: Magic and Monsters, voiced again by Fred Tatasciore. In the mid-credits, Lobo manages to apprehend Mister Mind and plans to collect a $1,000,000,000,000 bounty placed on his head, much to Mister Mind's dismay.
Lobo appears in several films set in the Tomorrowverse, voiced initially by Ryan Hurst and subsequently by John DiMaggio.
DC Universe (James Gunn)[]
Lobo will appear in the upcoming movie Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the second film set in the DC Universe produced by James Gunn.
He will be portrayed by Jason Momoa, who also played Dante Reyes in Fast X, Drogo in Game of Thrones, Keegan in Bullet to the Head and Flip in Slumberland.
Lobo appears as one of the playable DLC characters in the video game; Injustice: Gods Among Us. Originally he appeared in Doomsday's ending, but Lobo eventually became the first DLC character. He also appeared as an antihero in the Injustice: Gods Among Us and Injustice 2 comic series.
