Biography[]
The last Czarnian[]
Due to unknown occurrences, Lobo's species, the Czarnians, were almost entirely eradicated, leaving only him to roam the Universe. Lobo decided to become an intergalactic bounty hunter, working for anyone who paid him enough, and somehow, gained immortality along the way, being unable to be killed by anything.
At one point he also met the galactic conqueror and dictator Mongul on his planet-like weapon, the Warworld, where Lobo witnessed a large amount of the White Martian species, gathered from across the Multiverse, which was previously thought to be extinct. Sometime later, he was hired by an unknown client to take out the last known Kryptonian in the universe, who resided on planet Earth in Sector 2814, so Lobo took his Spacehog and set off to Earth.
Fighting Superman[]
As soon as he entered the atmosphere with his Spacehog, he was met by his target. The Kryptonian tried to talk him down, but after Lobo revealed to him that he had been sent to take him, a fight started, resulting in the two of them falling into a warehouse in the city beneath them. During their fight, Lobo did not take his target very seriously and revealed much information about the reason why he had come to Earth. After realizing the collateral damage, they were causing, Clark Kent, as was his target’s real name, tried to bring the fight into a less crowded area in order to endanger less bystanders.
Though he managed to leave fly out of the city, Lobo followed him and jumped on from his flying motorcycle and attacked him, resulting in both of them falling into a research facility, where their clash continued. Before their arrival, the site had been evacuated, however one janitor by the name of Rudy Jones had been caught in the crossfire. He had fallen to the ground, before several boulders fell on top of him. Lobo, having taken an Organic E.M.P. Bomb from his arsenal, tried to attack Superman with it, but missed and hit the janitor, accidentally turning him into an energy absorbing vampire, who would later come to haunt both of them.
The fight then continued, and both left the facility and went on the outside of the building, before Clark gained the upper hand. Before he was able to win finish Lobo though, the Czarnian took out a ring with a sample of Green Kryptonite, remnants of Clark’s lost homeworld Krypton. After beating his opponent up, Lobo was ready to deal the finishing blow, but was stopped by J'onn J'onzz, a Martian, who grabbed him from behind and threw him away from Clark.
This gave him enough time to fly to space in order to recharge his cells with sunlight and heal. Meanwhile, Lobo battled the Martian, being unable to hit him with his blasters due to J'onzz constantly changing his density, until he took out a grenade and made use of the Martian's only weakness, fire. Before either of the two could win though, the kryptonian came back from the orbit and knocked Lobo out, before he could do anything to stop him.
Imprisoned in S.T.A.R. Labs[]
Lobo was then imprisoned in the same facility of S.T.A.R. Labs that he and the Kryptonian have previously fought in, having been put inside a cell that had its walls electrically charged, so Lobo would get electrocuted every time he tried to escape. Sometime later, the reporter Lois Lane from the Daily Planet paid Lobo a visit in order to gain more knowledge about him and Superman, which was the name the Humans had given to Clark, who was now operating as a superhero. Lobo, not taking the reporter seriously at all, tried to flirt with her and proved to be both inappropriate and unhelpful, which made Lois want to leave.
Before she could however, they were attacked by the Parasite, the monster that the janitor, who had been targeted by Lobo's organic E.M.P bomb, had become, who wanted to know from Lobo what was happening to him. He touched the electrified glass walls of Lobo's cell and absorbed its energy, which made him considerable stronger, but also caused him to pass out. While he was recovering from this overload of energy and adjusting to his new mutation, before also fighting Superman and the Martian, Lobo escaped the facility. He was later found by someone working for the imprisoned businessman Lex Luthor, who offered him to work for Luthor and, having nothing better to do, Lobo accepted.
Working for Lex Luthor[]
Having settled at LexCorp Tower, Lobo passed the time until Luthor had use for him. He later met Superman again as he made his entrance into Lex Luthor's secret base beneath the tower. Superman had taken Lex from Metropolis Prison in order to help him take down the Parasite, for which they would need Lobo, or rather the ring of Kryptonite he possessed. This weakness for Kryptonite Superman had, could also be given to the Parasite, when he absorbed Superman’s powers, as Luthor explained. They later turned off power in all Metropolis, except for the power plant on an island outside the city, in an effort to lure Parasite to them.
There, Lobo had issued a bomb threat to evacuate the plant, to which Superman remarked that Lobo shouldn’t lie about things like that, after which Lobo showed him that he was in fact wearing a bomb vest. As soon as Parasite arrived, he called his Spacehog and flew around his opponent's now giant form and tried to punch him with the ring. Parasite’s Kryptonite weakness had been lost by now though, together with the rest of Superman's powers, rendering Lobo‘s hits ineffective.
Seeing no way out after Parasite had caught him inside his giant hand, Lobo activated his bomb vest and blew himself up, seemingly killing himself, though he would later regenerate. After Parasite had been stopped, he, Superman and the Martian Manhunter met on the rooftop of the Daily Planet Building, where J'onn remarked that they were each the last of their kind. After a joke about him destroying his own species, Lobo explained that this whole “last of its kind“ thing was overused and rarely ever true. After hinting that there might be more Martians and kryptonians out there, he laughingly flew away on his spacehog and was soon followed by J'onn.
Hired by Mongul[]
Later, Lobo was hired by Mongul, who tasked him with bringing J'onn to him, to which Lobo complied. Mongul wanted to gain the key for Warworld from the Green Martian, who refused and would be tortured for the coming months, while also being used to enslave the prisoners of Warworld in unending violence and terror with his telepathy. During this time, the Manhunter planted the thought of giving him a backdoor in Lobo's mind, which allowed J'onn to call his friends from the Justice League, a team of superheroes from Earth that had been founded after Lobo had left the planet.
Lobo knew of this, but played along, hoping that Mongul would be defeated so that he could get the superweapon for himself. When the time came, and Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman showed up, he incapacitated them, originally having been ordered to kill them, and brought J'onn to Mongul. While Mongul was monologuing about his plans, while also further torturing J'onn, Lobo was bickering about finally wanting to see some action, which upset Mongul, who threatened to torture him for it.
Before their argument could escalate any further though, the White Martians onboard warned them that three prisoners, those being the three heroes, had broken free and were now on their way to them. While they fought Mongul's army, and the Manhunter fused with the Last White Martian to fully use the key that was hidden in both of their combined DNA, Lobo took on Mongul, fighting him with all he had over control of Warworld. In the end though, Lobo was defeated by Mongul and blown up when J'onn issued the self-destruction of the planet, killing himself, Mongul, the guards and prisoners, and potentially Lobo.
Helping in the Crisis on Infinite Earths[]
Later during the Crisis on Infinite Earths, it is revealed that J'onn J'onzz is alive and that there was no self-destruction function on Warworld and the planet teleported to another part of the universe. Lobo is shown alive along with Adam Strange and his daughter Aleea Strange, they help the heroes weaken the Anti-Monitor so that Supergirl destroys him with an overload of solar energy which ultimately kills her.
It is later revealed that the existence of the multiverse threatens to collapse reality itself, so an army of Anti-Monitors appears to destroy the remnant earths. The heroes with few options use the Miracle Machine to create a new monoverse to save themselves from destruction. Lobo is one of the many beigns to teleport to this new reality.
