Duke Lombard of Dozel is a major antagonist in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. The head of House Dozel and wielder of the famous axe Helswath, he's a direct descendant of the legendary hero Nál. He is the arch-nemesis of House Chalphy and more precisely of its leader Duke Byron and his son Sigurd.
Synopsis[]
Lombard was the head of the Dozel Dukedom, a land of the Grannvale Empire, and the employer of the dukedom's knight order called the Grau Ritter. Lombard had three children: Lex, Danann and an unnamed third child. The duke was the descendant of the Twelve Crusaders, a squad who worked with dragons in order to slay the Dark God Loptous.
While the crusaders were treated as equals, some of their descendants had more influences than others, which led Lombard to become resentful towards the imperial family and House Chalphy, one of the most popular houses of the empire (according to the non-canon Oosawa manga). With the help of Dukes Arvis, Reptor and Andrey; Lombard decides to assassinate the imperial crown prince Kurth and frame House Chalphy for it. He then plans to take advantage of the chaos caused by the prince's death to execute the members of House Chalphy, get more power and become the new ruler of Isaach, a country wich is at war with the empire. At the end of the war with Isaach, Lombard murders Prince Kurth, nearly kill Byron (the head of House Chalphy) and frames him and his son for his crime.
After the war with Agustria, Lombard and Reptor confront Sigurd and try to arrest under false pretenses and accuse him of being a traitor. However, Sigurd's army escapes and goes into hiding in the desertic country of Silesse.
Lombard and Andrey try to take down Sigurd three years later by attacking Silesse, after Lombard ambushed Byron, gave him mortal wounds and destroyed his squad of knights called the Grünritter. However, Byron reunites with Sigurd and gives him the legendary sword Tyrfing before succumbing from his injuries. Lombard and Andrey take over Lubeck castle and handpick it as their new lair, but Sigurd attacks their castle and kills them while seizing Lubeck Castle. That said Lombard's son Danann does become the new king of Isaach, prior to his death at the hands of Sigurd's son Seliph several years later.

Trivia[]
- Despite being Sigurd's nemesis, he isn't the last boss of Part 1 of Genealogy of the Holy War. That honor goes to Chancellor Reptor.
